good to see they have the club at heart

The club that sits on top of the ladder has Gary Pert, Ian Mcmullin as people who have played the game. Eddie Mcguire is a football person. Mcguire and Pert are top liners. They are 3 of a 7 man board. Carlton have gleeson and Kernahan on a 15 man board.

I have a major problem if coaching appointments are made by a subcomittee which doesnt have board representation. I stand by whoat I said. The board has to have a member on it who is qualified to have serious input into the coaching decision. I don't think we have a current member who is qualified to appoint a coach. Collingwood by comparison have Mcguire and Pert who are qualified. You can not have the board rubber stamping a sub commitees coaching decsion without direct involvement

Try 12 man board.

Who would you like to see appointed to the Board that could make such a decision. If you say Wallsy and Sellers, then why?

Why McClure?
My read on McClure is he has the potential to be a hard headed decision maker to make the tough calls. He could be the "Wes Lofts" of his time. I find his insights accurate. Again Passion for the Club applies here too.

Very good. Hire them now - have them sit in the box even. Have them scour the country for the best coach for Carlton during the week...and then present their findings and recommendations to the board in November. Bu they're on a hiding to nothing if they come back and say 'Ratten's your man'.

Does anyone else think it is ironic that you are happy to just appoint Walls and McLure without going through any selection process and yet you are filthy Ratten has allegedly been appointed in a similar fashion (even though the Dr has told everyone this was not the case)

Maybe it's just me.

Someone has to make a decision on appointing a panel.

I think it is about time people stopped being appointed to the board and started to get elected to the board. Pity so few members are enrolled to vote and actually vote.

While Dick Pratt's intervention helped save the club I always thought it was a pity he chose not to run but rather was put in as president without being elected. I know people have been seconded onto the board before, but now it seems to be the rule rather than the exception. Pratt's son in law may well be a Carlton man and a great board member, but why can't he stand and subject himself to a vote. No one should be above going through the selection process, board members included. And we don't want to be seen to be giving seats to the highest donor. Anyway that's a bit off point. If some intelligent ex Carlton players want to run, I'll vote for them. Especially if they challenge Sticks supremacy. Don't get me wrong, he has made a great and selfless contribution, but we need someone else on the board who can challenge him on footy decisions and who aren't part of the 87/95 flag clique.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I seem to recall (anyone please correct me if I'm wrong) that at the last election the only option you had was to appoint two of three guys up for election.

If you didn't have confidence in more than one, or even any of them; then your only recourse was to not vote for any of them (which would just lead to reappointment of the incumbents).

IMHO the problem is more with the process than the voters.

Board members should be elected. I used the wrong turn of phrase. I just think these guys would really help the current crop. Their quality and experience would shine through

Fantastic job from the Melbourne Board and the people that have supported the campaign.

It'll be interesting to see where our debt levels are at the end of this year. We've focused on the football department and upgrades to Visy Park up to last year, hopefully they've been able to work on debt this year.

Doesn't really matter any more Brad as it's entirely manageable. You know just as well as I do that depending on the cost of equity, debt can a better source of capital. I don't think we have any pressing concerns with the structure of our balance sheet aside from chasing superior investments.
