Has been occuring this season and in particular last 4 weeks- we need more young elite talent but after this afternoons match and tonight - we are seeing the new dynasty at Carlton
Waite betts simpson bentick carrazzo thorton fisher wiggins and bryan all will improve and need to do plenty of work over the summer
Others in the seconds setanta russell -impressed with his tackling today blackwell smith and hartlett give us some additional hope
Livo sporn and houlihan also add to the mix

There is a light at the end of the tunnel Frank, it has just been hard to see until someone moved the tank.

Best post IMO of the year! :)

I'll get blasted for this. But here it goes. I used to be part of the PP brigade, but the more I think about it, the more it troubles me. I don't want to cheer for a loss. As someone who has supported the Blues for the best part of 2 decades, I simply cannot wish a loss against this Mighty club.

Who will give me the guarantee that the number 1 pick we pick up will take us into a premiership? If someone can give me this guarantee, then, fine, I will concede I am wrong and will jump back onto the PP bandwagon.

Let us just play to the best of our abilities and let the rest take care of itself. Carlton has been successful for SO many years without the advantage of an early pick so why would we need it now? Please everyone, let us put in some positivity into our support for Carlton rather than every second thread stating how much we want our club to lose.

A number one player in the draft will NOT guarantee us a premiership. Our game is a team game. It does not rely on one player. If all you guys are unhappy about the team we have, so be it. But don't abuse the others who are happy to see the Carlton Football Club win matches.

I can guarantee you that we didnt win 16 flags without soime of the greatest champions of all time.

Were quick to throw 500k a season to Kosi or Power ( Stevens) or worse even McKernan) to come to us in the PSD...or trade...

BUT were not interested in finding our own in the draft.
The club never liked the draft, never understood it, never believed in it.. and its still trying to take short cuts and not win a wooden spoon and settle for pick 2... instead of taking the best possible talent with pick one...

Its a pride thing...

We think were still a great club....
Were not.. no matter what we want to believe.

Regardless where we are on the ladder Synbad the Carlton Football Club will always be GREAT. Don't judge us on the last four years and look at the big picture.

We have been spoilt and our success out weighs our poor four seasons by miles.

Lets never forget the great times this club has given us and that includes the efforts of Campo & Whitnall in previous seasons.

I agree we are way off the pace in being competative and we do need an influx of youth and talent but that doesn't mean we are no a great club.

Our finances are also a concern however so were the finances of the Collingwood, Dogs and the Cats - Now they have all turned it around. If they, especially the Dogs can improve their finances so can our great club.

I'll take 15th place, avoid the spoon and the PP if we dont win any more games.

Till we won our ninth flag... Fitzroy were a great club..

You cant be a great club in the past tense.. you can only be a great club. Present tense.

No good living and looking to your last if you are too scared to look into your future and embrassed about your present.

Will BE great, but isn't great at the moment.

The big picture is the future.
The future is talent.
The only way you get talent is by acquiring the necessary picks in the draft.

And around goes the merry go 'round.

There's a big difference between being a great "club" and being a great "team".

We're still a great "club", there's absolutely no doubt about that in my mind, that is something that could never be erased by 3 or 4 or 10 bad seasons, you don't drift from being a "great" club one day to being a not so "great" club the next and then suddenly you're allowed to be considered "great" again when you're on top of the ladder.

But we're not currently a great "team", so far as playing lists and ladder positions are concerned. "Team" is a more narrow term that relates to the present players and their quality but "club" is a much deeper and expansive term.

So i guess whoever wins this years premiership is the only "great club" in the competition if we need to look at "present tense" Synbad?

I believe Fitzroy/Brisbane won 3 grand finals in the past four years, are they no longer a great club now there season is basically ruined by injury?

When the Lions get down in the cellar with us of course theyre not going to be a great club.

Youre only as good as however good you are... and were not great!!!

The FJ Holden used to be a great car but not many people think its a great car now.. most think its more quaint than great...

As Blues2005 said i think you are confusing club vs team. If you believe Carlton are not a great club, then why do you buy a membership?

Carlton is not a 'great' club right now in the true sense that most are accustomed to, we are a complete rabble actually. It'll take some time to repair the long term damage done by ringmaster Elliott, his trapeze artist Kinnear and the biggest clown of them all O'Sullivan.

Every subject, not matter how unrelated the content is to priority picks, always ends up being about priority picks/tanking/spooning etc.

It's like Groundhog Posts.

Actually, a spooning discussion may be interesting. Where do we post about the wonderful act of spooning?
