Hello and welcome to the penultimate edition of Wolfister's Weekly one cent stats for 2005. It's been a year of highs and lows... well mainly lows I guess... but now we're finally nearly over it, and the gang at Wolfister Inc (the big blue office at the bottom end of town) have kept on going regardless of whether we want to win or not to bring us this week's stats!

Carlton and Essendon* have met 221 times, with Carlton winning 115 (52%) of these encounters at PM+148 - like last week, this emphasises just how close these two rivals are. Even in recent years the rivalry has been a close one, with Carlton winning 3 of the last 5 (PM-39) and 5 of the last 10 (PM-140). We've played the Bombers 42 times at the MCG, notching up 18 wins (42.9%) at PM-325. In fact, our last 24 encounters with Essendon* have been at the MCG, with Carlton winning 11 of these (45.8%) at PM-171.

Round 21s started back in 1970 (now there was a year!), with Carlton winning 21 of the ensuing 35 clashes (60%) at PM+471 - making Round 21 our 15th most successful round on record. We've won 3 of our last 5 (including our last start against Melbourne - our last ever win at Optus Oval) at PM+22, and an amazing 8 of our last 10 (PM+204) - and one of those 2 losses was an after the siren effort against Port Adelaide back in 2000. We've met Essendon* only once in Round 21, back in 1974 where the Bombers ran out 6 point winners in windy conditions out at Waverley. At the MCG we've played only 5 times in Round 21, winning 3 of these at PM+100. The last time we played at the MCG in Round 21 was 2 years ago, where Hawthorn thumped us by 74 points.

Carlton have played 17 times on August 21, winning 13 of these starts (76.5%) at PM+516 - making August 21 our 35th most successful playing day on record. We've won our last 7 August 21s, the most recent coming last year with that victory over Melbourne at Optus Oval. Our last August 21 loss was back in 1971 where Fitzroy beat us by 23 points at the Junction Oval in front of 22,413 fans. We've played at the MCG twice on August 21, winning one of these (Collingwood in 1993) and losing one (Richmond in 1965). We've played Essendon* only once on August 21, back in 1948 at Windy Hill, where we went down by 34 points.

Till next week, remember that 72% of statistics think it's a waste that it was so sunny during the week, but looks crappy for the weekend.

Wolf Out.
