We have offered a two year contract. If he refuses that then there's not much we can do, is there?

Interesting that 29 year old Brad Johnson just signed a three year deal with the Bulldogs.

Will not make things any easier for Carlton's negotiations with Lappin.

He knocked back a HUGE offer over 2 years...because he wanted a massively HUGE offer over three years....

Silly boy...

Johnson turns 30 in July and Lappi before the next season.
Johnson is a gun and has been so for 10 years. Plays his heart out and could have left the Dogs time after time for huge money. Lappin has knocked back 1 big contract from Richmond. Carlton have him a chance when his career was at the crossroads.

Most importantly is that Johnson had his contract negotiations hanging over him and still had a good year and kicked 42 goals. Lappin on the other hand completely dropped his bundle.
If Lappin had kicked 42 goals and given his all for the year you think there would even be a discussion on him now?
He would be signed up.

He wouldnt be signed up now cos he asked for 1.3 million over 3 years...
Of course backloaded for his final year where he qualifies for the veterans list.

Not at that money but if he played like he did last year then might have got 300k by 3 years.

Compared to Kouta/Lance/Campo it is reasonable but thats the problem. Everything is compared to overpaid players.
Should be compared to Waite who is on 240k. The next player signed should ask themselves if they are worth the same as Waite for the next 3 years.

Thats my point all along about the culture of the place and the precedents set each time a player asks for a contract and looks around at what the player next to him wants/is on.

Like i keep saying.. give me a Wiggo.. who wears the jumper with love over a Campo anyday.

The problem with Campo is everything came easy... a premiership in his first year and it was all down hill from there... till he hit a brick wall...

Its blokes like Campo that have messed with Lappin.. and everybody else...
