Quote:
Foresight
Perception of the significance and nature of events before they have occurred.
Care in providing for the future; prudence.
The act of looking forward.
Think about that definition of foresight, and ask yourself whether you truly think that the good people in charge of our future really have the necessary foresight needed for our playing list to be realistically able to challenge for a premiership in 5 years time, or are simply just doing what any idiot can do, and "pick the kids".
Do any of you believe there is a plan beyond 2007? If so, what is it?
At the moment, it appears the plan is little more than:
* - Don't worry about 2006. We'll either tank or just not be good enough anyway
* - Hope the draft is as good as it appears to be
* - Hope the priority picks remain
* - *shrugs* I don't know...maybe.
So lets say the kids from this year come along at a reasonable rate. Lets say the kids in 06 are an alright crop too. Where does that leave us? The same situation that Hawthorn are in right now.....at 15th. A bunch of promising young kids, with SFA leadership (fair bet to say Kouta will be gone at this stage) and erratic undisciplined senior players.....3 years all for naught.
Where do we go from there? What's the plan? Hope that the 6-7 kids we pick up in the next 2 years are ready made world beaters? Aggressively recruit senior players?
The only team that has remotely got anywhere near success from tanking, being St Kilda, managed to do so on the basis of having solid leaders like Burke, Harvey, Loewe there at the time. Hawthorn will hit the wall once Crawford and Everitt retire, simply no leadership there. We will be the same once Kouta retires. Given our inability to throw cash around at the best of times, let alone Mr. Salary Cap being there in full force, we're not just going to lure a Judd or a Riewoldt or a Brown...
So I ask you this:
* - What do you think the plan is?
* - What do you think the plan should be?
* - Is the plan adequate?
