It's a quality aim from a good guy but I can't help but feel that if Teague keeps his spot in the team in 2006 I will be happy with his performance (assuming there isn't a run of injuries). Teague will be up against it for size til the end of his career and if he manages to keep Livingston, Saddington or the Irishmen out in defence (say) then he will have done a good job. Just being out there, the way he plays, would show leadership.

DB's post in the training section was interesting, actually askin Teague to slim down. Perhaps this means no more 6 inch shortfalls (no sniggers fellas) in the last line of defence? he had a couple of stints on-ball in 2005, against the Swans for over a quarter, where his marking ability was used for kickouts and kick to position. Interesting if this is persevered with.

Holy Shit! There's no pleasing some people. After the "Lance Wants Egg and Bacon Role" articles a few days back everyone was crying for leadership. Now Teague throws his hat into the ring and we want to throw it back. The more senior players that set the 'right' example, the more the kids are likely to follow. Good onya Teaguey!

teague didn't actually say "i want to be part of the leadership group" did he

he was probably just asked what he hoped to be this season, and yes playing as a leader is one of the things teague can and hopefully does do.

good on him, hope he has a blinder in 06

Good work Teaguey.... I'd think that when he's up and firing he IS a leader.... the inspirational kind.

Good to read that some players have their heads on straight.

Teague is a brave player, if he wants to be a leader then fine, hope he re discovers some form and enthuses some other players to put their head over the footy and put their body on the line.
Didnt have a good year last year but then again copped some shocking matchups on bigger players and might be better this year with the addition of Saddington and Mclaren.....

Teague simply says "I'd like to be known as a leader" and people want to throw stones at him?!?

David Teague is a sensational representative of the Carlton Football Club.

IMO being a leader is about showing direction, having the respect of your team mates and representing the club responsibly.
Well, if the Carlton players are'nt inspired by Teagues attack on the footy or his preparation and encouragement/assistance on the track, nothing will help them.

As for representing the club, I've attended a few club functions and Teague deals with the sponsors, supporters and coterie members as well as anyone.
He is always positive and offers his personal time to promote the club.
Many of the other players keep to themselves and shoot through first opportunity they get.
It seems most of the recruits from other clubs are the ones that represent the club best. :?

Be thankful we have players like Teague, AB, Barnaby, T/Bird, Carlos and co. Some will be the future of our club and they will represent us well.
Official leaders or not.

Andrew McKay 1993-2003 = David Teague 2004- (as long as he wants)

Teague as a leader hmmmm
My first point is Teague should first concentrate on himself getting kicks, because he didnt do that in 2005
Once he plays he position consistantly he then can help out others. However on the flip side isnt Prendergast part of the leadership group.

The one think i do like about Teague is that he takes contested marks and backs into packs, he does need to do it more than once every ten weeks though.

Teague you can say that you want to be in the leadership group, but the younger brigade would respect you more if you lead by example on the field. That was Campos fault he told the younger players what to do, but he was never an example for the kids?

What a load of rubbish!!

What was he concentrating on in 2005 then?

Backing into packs and taking contested marks isn't the example we want out younger players to follow?

I can't wait for Teague to silence the critics next season. Saddington will be the best thing that happened to him, he'll take the 3rd tall and Teague can get back to the game that won him the B&F in 2004.

He's slimmed down so he'll be more mobile, won't be required to play taller than he is. We'll have a more accountable midfield next season so not only with the ball be coming down less and under less pressure, but he won't have to worry about covering Campo's man who's drifted into the F50 alone.

Welcome the news that Teague is willing to provide some leadership we're sorely lacking and I hope our new draftee's have a look at his commitment to the team and follow it.

Mate you havent understood my post correctly

Tell me this, do you think Teague had a good season last year? What was holding him back from playing well? I admit we did mismatch him a few times but he had a shocking season. Campos cant be an excuse for everything. He was playing full games and couldnt get a kick on the HBF (even lance did that).

I said i admire Teagues attack and courage, and i know he does get respected for it and he should, however publicly stating he want to be a leader isnt a real leader.

My point was Teague shouldnt of said "i want to be a leader to the media" but played like a leader. When players see Teague holding his positon each week, he would then become a leader. You cant gain respect by talking about leading, you gain respect by being the benchmark so the younger players look up to you and admire your game.

I am hard on Teague because i know he can play good football. His plroblem is consistantcy

I read somewhere on this site this week that Teague played with a chronic injury in the second half of this season.

He said he was unable to stretch out as he would have liked.

There's no doubting his courage.

That excuse can be used for 95% of players in the AFL though.

Teague is a leader and good on him.Trouble is he can only play in one possie. On a back flank against a short slow forward. fantastic that he won a b and f, but have a look at our last 4 b anf 's and it really shows how shit we have been in the last 4 years
1 McKernan (no explanation) 2 McKay (retired after the season) 3 Teague(struggled when opp coaches placed unsuitable opponents on him) 4 Kouta(on his last legs)

More recycled players the order of the day then BV...?

Yep - good on Teague for giving a shit. Not enough of that in our playing group over the last few years.

Still, you gotta laugh...

We're really setting the bar high with that one...

But will he be a Prenda (can't get a kick) leader or a Kouta (can get a kick) leader?

We know he's a 'filling the space in front of Barry Hall' leader.
