The decade 2001-2010.

Come the end of this decade we’ll be looking at two very contrasting halves.

2001-2005 = SHIT. The worst performance on & off the field in Carltons history. Embarrassing a lot of the time and gutwrenchingly painfull to watch at other times.

The end of 2006 will be seen as the completion of the turnaround in culture that affects the playing group and off-field management with ridiculous pre-existing contracts ending and the remaining duds left over from the cellar dweller years shown the door.

Seasons 2007-08 will see the youth that was brought onto the playing list in the previous 1-3 seasons emerge as classy and professional AFL footballers. During this time the new faces brought onto the board of management in 2006 will have sown the seeds in the promotion & marketing areas and interest in the “new bluesâ€

I agree with you Budzy.

The jigsaw puzzle is slowly starting to take shape.

2006 will be our last "bad" year for a long time.

As long as we don't fare as badly over the decade as St Kilda's grand total of 49 wins over the whole 1980s decade...

We went from 1947 to 1968 without a flag … we're only just half way through our worst period ever!

As Dennis states
This year is the third yr of a 5 yr sentence.
Things begin to look better from here on!

Well, the law of averages states that we should win a flag soon then. On average we win a flag at least once in a 7 year period. We're overdue … any day now.

Agree 1915-1938 and 1947-1968 were bad years but they were not littered with wooden spoons or regular thrashings. In fact we played finals fairly consistently and even reached a couple of GF's during those periods.

Yeah but Rod, that was a different era when the clubs fortunes wernt really fiddled with my the governing body of the game.

Now for us??
I think its the decade we had to have....

Hopefully it serves its purpose as a wake up call and make us smarter and is the kick in the arse the club needs to become what it always was again... a great club!!!

The club was in decline from the late 90s....

Agree entirely Synbad, but what do you think of the forecasts 2009-2010? You and I have disagreed before as to our many good players short the blues are - do you think a 5 year timeframe for success is reasonable or optimistic given how far back we're coming from?

molesy, i dont think we can say 5 years is enough for sure or not.
What we do know is you need time and in our situation we need plenty of it.
In my opinion it will be 2008 before we really step out of the darkness. How quick we really get going beyond that and become a bone fide chance of being anything depends on alot of factors.
I think by 2009/2010 we should be up there contesting .

Our problem is we have nothing 'up top'.
We dont have senior players that can make a difference to the psyche of this football club/ team.
Its a missing ingredient that may threaten to hold us back for longer than we would like.

That is why i would like to see the leadership structure change FROM NOW!
Stevens captain.. and a strong group of young core players being entrusted with extra responsibility from now.

With leadership within leadership within structures within the team and club.

The quicker we do this and spread the responsibility over tomorrows group the better the club will coope when its time.

What we need is the type of thing Mal Michael did to Riewoldt.
We need some ruthlesness.

At the moment the tone at the club is to go through the motions....

The bar is not very high and its only about playing.. there is no psychology/ mindset .. we must wait for the kids to grow and hopefully bring it in.
Wont happen with Lance Fev and Kouta...

Theyre just players.. nothing extra.

Fev is a FF so i wouldnt even concern myself with him as a leader.. as long as he does what he should be doing best....

Them's not facts at all, thems just a pessimistic throwaway. To suggest that we have no leaders and no class on the list is just pure Essendon* fan speak. 2015 infers that, what, no one on the list, is any good?

Rubbish
