I think Essendon* have been managed pretty capably by McMahon and then the incumbent which has provided a very sound business model for the club for the past decade or more.

They were progressive enough to see the future of being a strongly independent club (similar I think to some Euro soccer clubs - but I'm only surmising there).

They were wise enough to see the future of the internet deal.
They certainly seem to have gained from having Evans on the commission, but isn't that just another reflection of astute business sense.

We had Elliot and his bluff and bluster and bullshit.

When we've got as sound as base as them it won't matter that our CEO / Presindent is similarly unknown to Essendon*'s current one.

O R.. unmask myself????

Im not masked.

Why do people think just cos im pissed off with where were at i have to have an agenda???
It just stuns me that someone like Kernafdermides or whatever his name is says "stop trying to shock us!" like im shocking him more than our performances and the media we receive or our financial plight???

All i want is a change.. a change towards modern day thinkers .. people that understand this century not last.

THE EMPIRE WILL STRIKE BACK...one way or another

How about Robert Walls just for a start? Outspoken and, man, he was sacked twice and still barracks for Carlton. There is no denying his support and his reputation may inspire people, even create a different and exciting feel to the club. I am not critical of the current board, and I know a lot of people are, but some charisma, someone who's in the limelight can just push our brand to the top of the tree a little bit. A small but important step.

We will bounce back and mark my words on that but ideas expressed from the quote above and the first entry on this topic are great ideas and and a little bit different from the standard approaches that have been mentioned such as raffles ecetera. All these are good, tried and true approaches but something a bit different, a bit extra on top of this is all worth a mention. I hope IC and DP are reading all of this stuff.

Go Blues

MAN!.........................Did i screw up those calculations! LOL! wooooo hoooooooo - $10million bucks! Holy Crap!

But you get the gist of it.

Look, i'm not talking membership. I'm talking seperatley. I mean, we've have recored figures the past 2 years in a row and we still loose out! How the hell is that possible?

So the club is what? $7million in debt? A lot of that debt is accumulation/fees/charges/intrest on the overdrafts that the club has.

a $1million / $2million dollar bonus to the club would seriously help - but again we would have conditions. IE, a new club president. Collo ain't gonna be around forever!!!!!!!!!!!

I really don't see it as a huge problemin finding at least 10,000 DIE HARD Carlton supporters to chip in $100 bucks each to the club which equals (thinks about it for a second................) $1million bucks!

Also.....................just another thought. Because its a donation, would that make it Tax deductable?

I think the issue for a lot of people is that they'd love to be considered a "Carlton Hero", or whatever tag we put on, but getting that means 1000 bucks.....
The lesser recognitions are great - but while the club's still looking to celebrate the higher ones with such a difference, then I think they alienate those people who might want to donate less....

(And on that note, I pledge to donate to the Carlton Foundation sometime this year- I'll just have to work out what I can afford...)

Why doesn't the board put out a column in the weekly newsletter (email) talking about the rebuild that we are going through? You can always put the right spin on a message so that it doesn't get too low.

They could talk about recent financial results, recent initiatives eg. the discussion with the AFL to take over PP, recent sponsorship signings and other initiatives to bring money into the club. Perhaps they could solicit the membership for new ideas. Perhaps we could have a "board member of the week" or "employee of the week" where we learn what role they do at the club.

Does the weekly newsletter only go out to members? I have just had a look at carltonfc.com.au and can't find a way to sign up for the weekly newsletter. Perhaps it should be open to all supporters. Then there are additional people that can be encouraged to sign up as members. Perhaps there needs to be an initiative to find supporters who don't get the newsletter. Once these fringe supporters understand more the plight of the club and what they can do to help out then there is a good chance that many will sign up. Our club just needs more exposure and an increased email coverage is one way to do that.

If we need to get 40000 members to attract extra sponsorship then let's do the above.

I'll send my invoice in the mail.

During the season there are 2 a week. One for members only, one for all supporters who sign up. You may be able to sign up again once the season starts.

Thanks for the clarification Blueworld. I know they come thick and fast once the season is underway. I just think that email is a good way to reach further supporters and increase our membership.

However, I don't see anything on the current site to allow supporters to subscribe to a newsletter. There is an area for membership, but nothing for just the newsletter. It should be really obvious. Some supporters may not want to become members straight away, but will once they feel that they belong.
