Murphy - decisions, confidence, strength and bloody accurate kicks
Midfield - Good to see that we do not need to rely on Kouta to win the ball in the middle, the great man can stay up forward and kick his two of three goals.
Eddie - Denis loves him, kids love, I love him, the camera loves him and well...who doesn't love him?
Our second halves - We are killing teams after the major break.

I think they need to volunteer Eddie for the "greatest shave for a cure" just to get that bum-fluff off his face

The positive that came out of the game were the kids .
Theyre holding the team together at the moment.
Betts is a livewire.
Bentick is a Bull.
Murphy is a surgeon.
Kade and Walkers run
Carazzo is a ball magnet and should be played in the guts.

We could have won that game without Waite, Lappin .. and we still have the introduction and development of Setanta, Kennedy, Bower,Edwards,Smith , Flint and Aisake as well as Russell,Blackwell and Hartlett .

Betts and Bentick were the spark in the 3rd.
Agree that Carrazzo was wasted on Nick Davis.
Whitnall thrashed Hall(AFL No.1) for 3 quarters and got shaded in the last
Thornton did a good job after Saddington was exposed

Just our attitude overall and the improvement in our side this year to last.

Although I would love us to win every week , I can live with losses as long as the team shows the heart and spirit it has in the first three weeks so I am pretty satisfied

Special mention to Tex, Murph and Fev

The game was ugly and the opposition was superior but the Blues showed determination and almost pulled off a win without Waite and a man down in Lappin from the word go. I was fuming in the first half however and the Blues stayed in the game through a lot of luck.

Sydney play such a terrible style at times. It was so frustrating to watch. But they are well drilled and so precise into the forward 50.

What did show was that Carlton has absorbed Pagan's methods and remained in the hunt. We are certainly down three quality players in order to even start thinking about finals.

Cory McGrath is hugely underated.

For me, it's been so long since i have seen the blues dominate a period of play...In the third quarter when the boys were lifting you should have heard the crowd, it was incredible...When Stevo nailed the goal to tie it everyone went nuts...I haven't felt like that in years...

Murphy - Was great for a third gamer. He has just stepped into seniors so easily.
Betts - The pressure king. He is so quick
Houla - Yet another good game from Houla
Simmo - Stepped up when it counted and got us back into the game.
Bentick - Another great game in the guts and a great goal
Fevola - No dominant display but he was thrashed in the first half and the delivery was shocking. THe old Fev would have had a dummy spit, yet the new fev cam back. Had 3 goals for the game and applied defensive pressure. Another good game Fev.

Oh and if Fev goes for that hit, well then the game really has become like netball

Don't want to sound unsentimental, but that is actually a positive at this point because we won one and were in a position to win the other two.

This is either his last or second last season, so it would actually be a negative to be relying on BOG performances from Kouta to win us games. Those days are over.

Hear, hear yer honour!!! :-D

I'm no stats guru, but I reckon it's a bloody long time since a Carlton team has dominated in the clearances like Saturday night.

Kouta lacks urgency.

It also means we dont really need him to go forward.

A very young team is Carlton, and for them to take on the reigning premiers, and neally take the game, hat off to them.

Whitnall was brilliant. A great assett to this young team.

We will learn from this Sydney game plan/ caper. We may even use some of these tactics against them one day soon.

The young fellas will be looking at this game and thinking that there may be finals and a flag with the Mighty Blues one day soon. This belief will create more desire.

With Fish, Waite and Lappin out, Kouta injured and senior players such as Scotland and Chambers found wanting, we now know that the kids are our future, and are here to play.

What a great young midfield: Stevens, Murphy, Carrazzo, Betts, Simpson, Houlihan...

Well done.

Just being there was magnificent for starters, as I haven't been able to see many games in recent years.

The biggest positive is simply the attitude. I never thought it would be possible to be so content after a loss, but that was the sensation after the game.

We have our team back!

Great stat, Willie!

It would be a great stat if it was correct.

The fact is we have won 6 , drawn 2 and lost 4. Which in truth should have provided us with more than 1 win.

OK, I'm talking about simply being beaten on the scoreboard... A drawn quarter is not a loss. But 4 quarters? Which ones?

I'm talking about losing the first quarter against Freo and first quarter against Sydney.

Bearing in mind (for the second time) the point of this post was to mention an exciting, positive difference to recent seasons, I'm happy to stand corrected if true

A drawn quarter is not a loss, but it's not a win either.

I think the actual line that has been floating around is that we've pretty much only lost 2 quarters out of 12.

You're right...clearly not exciting for the club...

But this thread is about "the positives", isn't it?

For me it was good to see a strong, very vocal and passionate Carlton crowd. I had a mate with me who follows another team and he said we made some noise.

I was impressed with AB, Murph and Simo especially AB you can see how determined he is so hope he keeps it up because the future looks bright for him. Murph just a touch of class he and Simo can play footy.

The statistic I listed is a very positive one and shows we should have won 3 games, and we nearly have. But we need to get past the point of nearly and make it an actuality.
