New Blue chief needs to unify a faded empire

Quote:
If there's a post-communist society that Carlton resembles these days, it's probably the old Yugoslavia, or worse, maybe Richmond.

Quote:
Collo's departure — which was clearly far from amicable — is the latest example of Richmond-isation.

Bloody hell, now this is really starting to give me the shits.

and in that vein, I do agree that its time to get over Jack, and move on:

Quote:
Last night, he was again crowing about Collo's exit on Foxtel's White Line Fever. Carlton leaders note: If the media can't get the club heavies to the front, they'll get Jack back every time.

Smorgan is right on one thing - winning is going to make it better.

Yeah buts thats like saying "I want a Lambourghini" i want it but its not going to happen...at present.

The problem is taking control.

There are always excuses.... more excuses you have the more you can point to them.

Smorgan will say its onfield.He knows thats going to take time.
In the meantime what initiatives will be put into place to stregthen the club going into the future???

It will be about Mathiesons revenue legacy that he will leave the club and going to the AFL for help.

But beyond that???

"Nah sorry... cant do anything we hqave to win games"
He is setting himself up for the tome of his presidency.. and that will be what its going to be about.

Jake Niall is right... we are a Richmond.. unless we take strong ownership of this clubs destiny instead of leaving it in the lap of the gods.

North/ Richmond.. whats the difference....I want us to be ourselves again..

And that wont happen by being run in a mediocre fashion.

Our strategy is get the AFL on side and get them to help us out...

Thats it...!!
After that we will continue on as were going.. the steady as she goes approach...

We had to get rid of Collo and appoint Smorgon and his two vice presidents Kernahan and Valmorbida for that specialist strategy.

The board is "inactive", I agree.

Are they fiddling whilst Rome burns? For example does the Board have any plan for our resurection outside of "winning games"? For what its worth Synbad, I agree that is the obvious (and distant) solution.

If there is a plan (and I don't belive that the Board has one), then shouldn't the members be aware of it?

Lets hear about:

Marketing;
Sponsorship;
Coterie groups;
Team building plans....

If we have years of just "being competetive" ahead of us, then lets understand what is being done to rebuild (I think we can concede that we do that now).

Confidence in the Board is really important, and leadership must come from them.

Collo's resignation after the election has, unfortunately, deprived us of the ability to bring in more new blood, new blood that we need to reinvigorate the thinking at the club.

I belive that our new president decried the lack of planning and direction under the old president. I await, with hope, the possibility that he will provide that which was lacking. Time is running, and fast.

What concerns me about getting assistance from the AFL are the "conditions" under which the assistance is granted. This appears to be a fuzzy area.

What worries me is all the negativity and apparent disunity.

I'm sick of hearing "sack Collins", "sack Pagan", "sack Smorgon" and all the other negative politics and bruised egos.

Lets support the coach, board and president and prevent us from turning out like Richmond. Pagan has a proven track record as a coach whilst Smorgon is obviously a very astute businessman.

We need to be patient with regards to acquiring and developing quality young players, attracting sponsors and building success both on and off the football field.

I with you Humpers on this. We have to be patient, as hard as it may seem its better in the long run. We have to show some faith in this current crop and once we start winning onfield the focus will ease from all the political behind the scenes bickering amongst us and current and former board members.

Yep I agree too Humpers.

Smorgon might not be Joe rock n' roll in the personality stakes but he's no dill either. Give him time & a chance...

agree with the positive comments above, some people aren't even giving Smorgy a chance, we gave Collo a chance and he was a large part of Jack's era, my only concern is that so many people that promised so much as 'Carlton One' are now not even on the board - don't know what that says about their character but if our supporters were as weak who knows where we would be.

I don't know if it was a ploy, I just think that some of the people don't like it tough and didn't realise that work was involved. Probably thought that everything would fall into place - perhaps didn't like Collo as president either?
