Jim, do you even think about what you write before you click the submit button? Your statement is pure, and utter bullshit.

There is a majority of Swans supporters up here, granted, but there are a huge number of people who support all manner of other clubs, especially Carlton.

I've got mates up here who are Blues supporters for a myriad of reasons. I also know Kangas fans, Collingwood, Essendon*, Melbourne and St Kilda fans.

For you to assert that people in Sydney follow Sydney is the same deficient thinking that the AFL employs for promoting footy up here.

You are wrong on that China Blue .... a lot of supporters would no longer be members of some different hybrid club...

We would definately lose some members in Melbourne. I agree. We would definately attract new members elsewhere though, and if this helped turn things around, we may even get some former members to sign up again, when they see the club actually has a future again. Much in the same way Fitzroy and South lost memberships and then increased them again after their respective moves.

I really hate the prospect of losing any Victorian members by the way, but they seem to be deserting our club in droves at the moment anyway because of our seemingly hopeless predicament.

the Blues are not a club that can change much like the Pies / Tigers or Bombers these four clubs are the strongest representatives of Melbourne and also the most successful.

If we don't change then we are well and truely stuffed. It can't be put any simpler really. We certainly can't continue as we have been, that is for certain. Maybe after tonight's announcement from Smorgan, some people will open their eyes a little more as to what could really happen unless there is significant change on several fronts and bloody soon, before we no longer have any say as a club about what happens to us and where we would prefer to play. Some short term compromises and accomodations may just save our club. Play a few home games against the lower crowd pulling interstate teams on the Gold Coast, generate some cashflow, attract more members and sponsors, help promote the AFL game in South East Queensland, generate more FTA coverage on TV across Australia and increase the positive coverage of the CFC brand in the press. This can't hurt the club and may just bring around the salvation and rebirth of the Blues.

to be honest the AFL couldnt afford any othese four clubs to change as if the AFL know that these 4 clubs are too important to shift.

Lets bloody hope so, but lets not sit back and rely on this to secure the future of our club. I don't care about any of the other clubs. And I really am starting to wonder about the relevance of the traditional big four in Victoria in the AFL's eyes, with their focus more broadly on the national comp. We need to wake up as a club and make things happen for us now and create a strong future for ourselves, not get bogged down with our glorious past history and pride.

I cant believe that this thread is still going.

I am sure that the AFL does not want one of the 4 victorian powerhouses to move.

I wonder if the threat of a merger of relocation might actually push supporters to drop their apathy about our performances off and on the field. The near merger with Melbourne was the best thing that ever happened to Hawthorn

There is something seriously rotten at the core if one has to resort to emotional blackmail.

I detest emotional blackmail.

I don't think Hawthorn were emotionally blackmailing their fans at the time. I didn't mean "threat" as in the club threatening to do it... but rather, a serious threat that it might happen at the club's behest

I voted for the Gold Coast option.

Means that we wont have to share our newfound success with any other AFL clubs :P

But obviously no one wants to merge or relocate, so it's just a discussion to get peoples opinions should things move that way, out of our control..

Also BrizzyBlue can I just say, all of your threads are well thought out and argued, in-depth and never negative.. Top stuff mate, even though most of your threads are wasted on peons replying to it with their "wheres the f&)%$ off option?" .. I can only hope we have people thinking it through as well as you at the club..

I wouldn't like to see us move at all but if it became inevitable i'd want us to do it before anyone else..

But before I get my head bitten off I have to say I obviously hate the idea of moving my beloved team from their home. These ideas should at least be discussed though..

Thanks Benny,

I hate the idea of giving any other club an advantage, thats why I think we need to be proactive and make some sensible decisions for our future. Maybe we need to do something really radical, like after the AFL assistance issue is resolved and big Bruce throws in a few loose mill, and we shame 5,000 members into re-signing, we could steal a march on the rest of the competition. Hmmm (Gunna work on a fixturing idea that just might bail us out). 8)
