This has got me bugged.

It was reported around here last year that Camporeale was on big money ($700,000 - $800,000 or something). Whitnall was apparently on over $500,000 last year (along with Stevens) and Kouta on $1,000,000.

Didn't Whitnall drop to about $350,000 this year (about $200,000 less)?

If so, where has that extra $1,000,000 gone? Fevola has probably got $200,000 of that, but the rest? Who were the players given hefty pay rises? My spreadsheet isn't adding up at the moment.

I believe Koutas salary went up this season (being heavily backended), while Campo was on the veteran's list so only half of his salary counted towards the salary cap. So assuming Campo was on around $350,000 (for salary cap purposes) that's $200,000 to Fev, another increase for Kouta and some more to Jarrad Waite (who had a pay increase too). I'm sure they used most of it.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next season when Kouta loses his massive contract.

Verbs, there are also lots of incremental increases to do with players in their first few years.

When you hear about a player like Marc Murphy getting a first round first year draftee's salary the figure mentioned is $45,600.

That doesn't include $2200 per game plus a bonus for playing a certain number of games. Murphy will play more than 11 games so he'll earn a bonus $6300.

If he plays all 22 games he'll earn $100,300 in his first year.

Because Murphy will have played over 16 games this year next year his base will go up to $59,800 and he'll earn $3250 per match. That's $131,300 in his second year.

Obviously Murph is a little unusual in the number of games he's playing but it's an example of where some of the money goes.

If you haven't seen it before all the pay rates etc are here:

http://www.aflpa.com.au/media/CBA%20200 ... bFINAL.pdf

Pay rates start at page 47.

On the footy show a few weeks ago, didn't Carlton come out and say they would be asking the AFL if we could pay less than the 92% of the salary cap that is the base requierment for next year?

we've already been done for going over the salary cap it's be a disaster if we got done for going under it now though i dont think we're doing that or will in the future and on the footy show graham smorgon reckons he didnt say n e thing about paying under the 92% he was just saying that we are in a bad condition and need support from the afl and from people signing up as members
