WHAT?

He was ok!

Had his problems early, but he didn't let that get to him. He just kept on trying and for a young developing kid of just 20, thats a rare mentality to have. He kept on doing his thing!

Pago Pago's in game coaching:

At quarter time he went straight to 1AW after Ablett had towelled him up and quietly pointed out where he had gone wrong and told him what tactics to employ. More importantly he showed his confidence in Andrew by leaving him on Ablett for the bulk of the match. Result:1AW finished with 18 touches and Ablett was taken out of the game only netting 3 kicks after quarter time. Sure he had a half dozen handballs, but this was due to the pressure Andrew applied. Walker 18 - Ablett 17.

Noticing JR drop his nut in a marking contest, dragged him and spoke to him on the blower at length. When Jordon returned he took a courageous mark in the last line of defence and then followed up with some quality possesions. He finished with 4 marks for the day from limited ground time.

Talked to JFK at 3 quarter time about his positioning and was emphasing (by the holding of his hands in front of his face and swaying his hips) that Josh takes his eyes off the pill and watches his man too much. That great mark he took where he used his strength and most importantly focused entirely on the ball, flags great days ahead for this boy. 8)

Young Cool Hand Luke was feeling the after effects of his tough game against the Brions so spent a lot of time on the pine. He seemed to be on the blower a lot and in a few cameo roles got some quality touches.

Appeared to be very animated when talking to AB. I guess it was about his extraction from under packs. Not sure but he improved his delivery as the match went on. What this kid lacks in skill, he certainly makes up in guts.

You will note that I am only talking about the kids in this post, simply because they are the ones who are coachable and if 10% improvement can be dragged out of them, we will be a force to be reckoned with; with a injury free and better list next year. :-D

Maybe Pago Pago can give them some on the job experience by having them out on the park and not on the bench of big chunks of the game???

Further positives:

We are closer to the Priority Pick and now the Kangaroos have missed out by registering their 5th win of the season over the Bulldogs today. ATM, we have Picks 2, 18, 20, 36, 52, 68 & 84 if we use them all and depending on trades. 8)

Fev should win the Coleman.
Simpson is a class player.
Wiggins has arrived as an AFL player - well done Wiggo.
Bower & Hartlett both made an injury free return to the Bullants.
Jake Edwards was listed amongst the best for the Bullants.
Either Bryce Gibbs or Lachlan Hansen will look great in Navy Blue.

Deluca's - almost specky.
Simmo - he has arrived as a player and leader.
Fev - four opponents and beat them all.
Carrazzo - goal from the boundary line.
McGrath - best game of the year except when in front of goal.
JR - second efforts after taking his off the ball.
Sporn - played his last game for the Blues.

Kennedy's contested mark.

Think the quote at the time was ... "Thank F--- for that".

 sad isn't it when a single moment can make the game for us - we are what we once abhorred!

THAT mark of Kennedy's was special.

Good body work, strehgth, eyes at the ball, and one clean grab. The moment he did that, my eyes popped and said to myself..."that's the first sign I've seen that has AFL class written all over it. Before that I thought he was just good at crashing into packs and causing a crumb.

I wasn't convinced prior to that mark. I compared a 17yo Whitnall (F/S) to a 19yo Kennedy (pick 4) and there was no comparison. Kennedy seemed to lack a lot for me....but then that mark!!

My conclusion was that we are not isolating him enough, we are not giving him opportunity, and when he made the most of that opportunity I realised we have a CHF or at least a class forward that is evolving in our team.
