I might be alone on this one, but I reckon Sporn is a bit lucky. Didn't have any intention for the ball, I thought it was a pretty crude incident.

Still, I'm glad he got off.

Thats what happened...

http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=209063

Quote:
Carlton utility Trent Sporn, reported on Saturday night for charging Brisbane's Daniel Merrett, will not have a case to answer after the panel deemed that he was committed to the contest and the contact was inevitable.

Teammate Justin Davies' clash with Lion Jason Akermanis was also reviewed but the panel viewed that the contact made by Davies was minimal and made with an open hand in an attempt to hit the ball.

Carlton skipper Anthony Koutoufides' collision with umpire Adam Davis during the fourth quarter was deemed accidental and the result of Lion Michael Voss pushing him into Davis' path.

The panel decided that no action would be taken against Voss but warned all players that a repeat of this conduct may result in a charge being laid against the player who causes the contact.

I like the comment about Voss and that no action will be taken, but warned any other players...

(BTW, why wasn't it a fifty when the player ran between Lappin and the mark????

If it's the incident I recall, he was following a Carlton opponent, it is OK to run through the mark if you are following an opponent.

These decisions are the same as rubbish time free kicks that we get to even the stats when the umpires have been screwing us all day.

Same with Tribunal decisions such as these.
