OK, there have been a number of posts that have been scathing of the selections of the senior team for every round this year. Generally the blame is put on the coach - he's a pretty easy scapegoat. Blame is also put on Kouta - how dare he take someone's spot when he should retire. Or De Luca, must be the coach's 'boy'.

Now can someone (maybe one of you so called insiders at the club) outline what the makeup of the selection committee is? Who is the current chairman? What are the inputs? Is their a ceiling on the number of sub 23 yo to be played? What's our policy on KPP's?

Let's get to the core of the issue here, not just ranting and raving.

Kernahan's the chairman. He was also reponsible for recruiting guys like Mansfield & O'Reilly instead of drafting kids.

I think you'll find that was Parkin.

danny's got a very good point, despite the 8) . The simplicity of people's claims can be quite amusing some times.

Parkin took responsibility for it on ABC radio a couple of years ago, when questioned by a Blues fan after a TD game vs Hawks. Basicly admitted he made mistakes on Mansfield and O'Reilly.

Parkin has always shown himself to be a very humble and selfless person.

Sticks brought OReilly to the club.

Thats a direct quote....

Parkin's words re O'Reilly were along the lines of "I overestimated the state of his body and his ability to continue playing at a high level" . He had done nothing of any note for over 2 years, constantly injured 30yo. And he was a top FB when Sticks played against him, but he was 3 years older. Which was the same as Mansfield and McGuane, and why so many Carlton fans like myself were furious with the decision to recruit those 3 in particular. They all had over 2 year histories of chronic injury problems.

People want to be careful with their bulls$%t accusations, I am pretty sure that Sticks didn't have the final say on who we did or didn't recruit - this was not his job.

You weren't at the meeting at Moonee Valley in 2002 re outing Elliott when Sticks admitted he, as chairman of the MC, had recruited experienced players at the expense of youth because they thought they were close to winning a flag?

Whoever you want to credit it to, it's been great to see development of younger players a much more obvious feature of the last couple of games. We're playing a much more attacking brand again, and we're not only seeing young players get their chance, but they're now starting to receive real responsibility. For example tonight, nearly all our young running players got an opportunity in the centre square (including Russell).

I think we can all cop losses (even if we don't like them), but it's great to see the future beginning to unfold. Credit where credit is due. Well done!
