There is a lunch with DP as the main speaker, at Optus Oval this friday.

I have been to a few of these and it is refreshing to hear off the record what the coach thinks.

To book call Lorraine McLean at the Club on 9389 6204.

Friday 1st September 12.30 - 2.00pm

$38.50 two (2) course inc. beer wine and soft

I too have been to these type of functions to hear what DP has to say "off the records"

I’ve heard things like...

Brett Johnson was a great pick up from Hawthorn and is going to be a champion

Jordan Bannister has the potential to be a 150 game player for the club

I will fight tooth and nail to keep Libba at the club as I rate him very highly

We are on the way up and will be amongst it again in around 2 years

This was all said around 2003/2004 when I actually believed in Pagan & the club and was happy to support off-field functions. Nowdays, all of this and more has been proven wrong and they continue to treat us like mushrooms (eg fed shit and kept in the dark all the time).

You will get nothing more from DP other than someone trying to spin some positive crap on a dire situation.

Save yourself the $38.50

Just spoke to a current player (soon to be delisted)
All I can say is the anti Pagan vibe amongst the playing group is pretty strong at the minute, even amongst those who are regular senior players...
also said he had heard the rumours about Mitch possibly taking over next season, and that the Pagan- Mitchell relationship is hardly strongat the minute.
Also admitted Pagan only works with a legion of yes men at his disposal, and endorsed Mitch as a super coach as well.
Emphasised the irony of the Bullants doing so well and the Blues struggling.

Pretty much things that have already bene said on here, but interesting to have it all validated.

seems like 'the jig is up' with Pagan's lip service

Gee Josh - are you after a job with the Herald Sun?? Maybe with Caro at the Age? You haven't 'validated' anything. At least make it humerous for us....something like -

"a mate of mines' cousin who painted a house for the mechanic who did some work on Troy Longmuir's car was saying that Bazz Mitchell was going to take over the reigns from Denis Pagan over the summer - reckons he spoke to the girlfriend of the vetinary nurse who had a three-way with Callum Chambers brothers' mate who told him the same thing at a Frankston TAB two months ago...so it must be gospel"

Give Josh a break.

That appears to be first hand information and so naturally he can't reveal names.

Your right on the money Josh and don't worry about the mud throwing.
Relationship between coach & players has been for a while.

Well Mitchell spoke at the luncheon last year and he spouted the same type of rhetoric.

What else are they going to say?

If you go to these things thinking you are going to get anything more candid than what is fed to the chooks in the media then well ....

It might well be fact - but that's irrelevent! It's hardly newsworthy...it's not like we haven't heard this stuff before!
Here you have a bunch of 20 somethings who don't like their boss...could be one of 1,000 workplaces. It's not part of Pagan's job criteria to be popular with the players. Certainly the player that I have spoken to has said "I'm just so sick of losing" coupled with the "gee, he's a grumpy old bastard", coupled with glowing reports of the reserves coach who's a great bloke. This guy is in his early 20's and has exactly the same attitude as a mate of mine who played AFL footy 10 years ago. The 2 don't know each other.

Put Mitchell in charge and within weeks - he will not be Mr.Popular. The same people who post on here about the widening gap between VFL and AFL level are some of the same people who think putting Mitchell in as coach will solve Carltons problems! The coaching caper is even harder at that level...and personally I don't think he has what it takes.

As for Josh's comments...It's the same at nearly every other club. In fact it's the same at every workplace. About to get the arse and don't really like your boss - of course you're going to say the 'team' doesn't get along well with him...

... You want a change of coach - fair enough...but the best the board can do right now is put a bit of a firecracker under him and say - "you're here because you're contracted and on a very good wicket and we're not in the financial position to chop you. Your underlings that you hired aren't and we might get rid of them...understand that we call the shots and we must prepare for the future."

But isn't "gee, he's a grumpy old bastard" enough to suggest that he is out of touch with the playing group?

I understand your point about the potential for Mitchell to become less popular if he takes over as senior coach, but at least they like him and probably find him to be a lot more approachable than Pagan.

Dr Sherrin did you get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

Shit, if I had spoken with a player who told me this info I would be on here pretty quick to share it with others. Josh doesn't have a record for spouting crap and starting rumours so give him some credit.

Couldn't care less about a player about to be delisted might say, grain of salt stuff.
But I do hope if the club is to retain Denis that they do take a broom to his support staff and change the mix drastically.

Listened to Jade Rawlings on the radio and - coupled with what others have said about him, current players, ex players anmd some ex coaches - he seems like he might be an interesting get to have in the mix around the club.

I'll start. He has been an assistant coach at Carlton for almost 10 years and has never come up as a possible coach at any other club.
