Carlton people have gone mad with the legal advice this week! :P

Ump backs Diesel in fight.
Quote:
"I know the chances of me getting another Brownlow are a million to one, but I should have won three and I don't give a stuff what anyone says," Williams said last night.

"I just want the truth to come out with what really did happen and I was robbed."

Quote:
Bird, an inexperienced umpire at the time, said he wanted to give Williams at least one vote but was overruled and ignored by the more senior Russo.

"I remember saying to Russo in the rooms after the game, 'Gee, Diesel was good today'."

"Russo said, 'Well, did he make your job any easier?'.

"I said, 'No, he was a c... . . he gave us a hard time'."

It's about f*cking time the truth behind this came out.

But gees we're coming off looking like a pack of whingers at the minute, aren't we?

Williams was BOG easily that day. Same as Hird that night he got no votes when he won the game for them the week after he bagged McClaren.
The umpires are spiteful and shouldn't be awarding the best and fairest player. They should be concentrating on umpiring which they are struggling at.

Go for it, Diesel, this has always been an absolute disgrace...

Russo's dishonourable actions far outweigh any thing Diesel did that day, yet umpires seem to be beyond question or criticism.

Let's see if the AFL, who always police the games image and level of sportsmanship, have the balls to fix this.

(sound of crickets....)

I think the stats. prove that Diesel has a valid case.

I think he is one of the few players that deserve to be a triple brownlow medalist.

Does anyone still have a copy of this match?

I went onto AFL videos and they don't sell it.

Can you contact me privately. I can pay money for it.

Cheers.

Surprise surprise.

The whole football world knew that there was something suspicious with the voting that day from the umpires.

"Out damn spot" says Bird. Bird you have been cleansed. Good on you.

Why would anyone want to be implicated in such a damning moment for umpires and in particular umpires on that day; Round 22 1993?

Russo, you're a disgrace.

Now the AFL know the truth, that umpires do impose their bias on the game, do you think that they'll consider Goldspink a traitor of fair and balanced umpiring?

Too late to banish Russo from Carlton games, but it's about time Goldspink was banished from Carlton games for his disgraceful treatment of anyone in the Dark Navy Blue jumper. As if. The AFL is just as guilty of imposing their bias against Carlton. The AFL Commission is manned by people harboring bias against Carlton, are vindictive and IMO are just a bunch of cowards.

There is no doubt over Diesel's valid claim that he was robbed - BUT - he should just let it go.

I take enormous pleasure year after year hearing the Collingwood bleeding hearts complain about Harms knock-in, or Esendon fans (the older ones) bleating about Lofts pushing Blethyn in the back 20m out in the last seconds of the 1968 grand final. It is sensational stuff. I take enormous pleasure in their pain.

The more Deisel winges about his brownlow, the more the rest of the football world loves it that they have an injustice back against Carlton. The worse thing is that he is starting to look like that pathetic whinger Polly Farmer who wants the 1967 premiership awarded to Geelong because of umpire favouritism. We do not want this great of our club and of the game to be remembered more as a bitter whinger, that the elite champion he was.

Deisel - you were robbed - we all know it - but the AFL will NEVER overturn the decision - so build a very very very big bridge and .....

Williams comes across petulant and pushy in this article. He doesn't hold back.

Which I don't mind at all.

Three brownlows puts Williams in the absolute elite level in the history of the game.

I'd be pushing for it. Hopefully he stirs up enough shit and his claims get recognised.

He has a case if Bird sticks with his guns and doesn't back down. The AFL can't deny that a miscarriage of judging brownlow votes has taken place.

But they obviously can't strip Wanganeen of his title, or Madden or SOS of their votes -- they could only gift Williams one vote, the one that Bird said he wanted to give him, and let him tie the medal and everyone is happy.

The game wasn't filmed for TV that day. If you remember at the time, Channel 7 would set up for broadcast for around 4-5 games a week and send only one camera out to the other games. Like what the ABC do for the VFL now. On the highlights tape for 1993, Blue Horizons, that games has poor vision of the game from a single camera positioned somewhere in the Heroes Stand.

It was round 10. Carlton was playing Melbourne at Princes Park and Greg Williams stats were as follows

Kicks - 18
Handballs - 26
Disposals - 44
Marks - 3
Tackles - 1
Goals - 1
Behinds - 1

He was leading possession getter on the day and clearly dominated stats-wise and also from my recollections of the game. Next best was Todd Viney with 36 touches and Adrian Gleeson with 29 and Brett Sholl with 28. Does anyone have the Brownlow votes for that game?

Diesel is probably still trying to come to terms with the 9 week suspension for pushing the umpire out of his face .

It was good of the umpire to admit the mistake but he could have done it 13 years ago

In the article it says

3 Hanna (19 possessions 1 goal)
2 madden (10 possessions)
1 Silvagni (11 possessions)

We'd better be careful about calling for the AFL Commission to reverse things, they'll probably strip us of the 95 flag for breaching the salary cap.

I don't think Diesel will get too much sympathy from the football world. Personally I hope the club distances themselves from this claim, it's sour grapes in my opinion. Let sleeping dogs lie.

Poorly Handled Greg Williams.
Supposedly players play for each other and the team not for individual awards. Diesel is coming across as a spoilt brat and is denegrating his team mates in order to promote himself. Everyone knows he should have got 3 votes but he didnt, get over it!!! He was one of the all time greats and an extra Brownlow will not make anyone think of him as anything more.
He was a selfish footballer who was incredibly talented but he has nothing to gain from dragging up this dead issue, all it will do is make supporters of all clubs recall him as a whinger.

Let it go you are just embaressing yourself.
Russo should be investigated and reprimanded if true but Diesel should not receive a postumous award.

While it's best and fairest (or actually fairest and best) - what case does he have?

The one who should be really disappointed is SOS in 1990 when he won the game against Geelong and got no votes... he only missed the Brownlow by 2!

Williams = Great player

Williams = flower

One of my all time favourite players to watch but a more mean spirited and sour little shit you would struggle to find.

It's called karma Greg. You spend your career slagging off the umpires and giving them shit and then you get upset when they hand it back. I was at that game and I walked out thinking I'd just seen one of the great performances by a midfielder.

No votes for that game was bullshit but so is this current effort by a little man with a little man complex. No dignity whatsoever.

It's times like these that you have to pull out the "Bruce Doull test", i.e. what would Bruce Doull do in a similar situation?

Obviously there wouldn't be a similar situation because it wouldn't and couldn't happen to a bloke of such character and the respect of the entire football community.

You can have your 2.5 Brownlows Greg.

You're still not Bruce Doull's sphincter muscle.

I agree, he comes off looking petulant.

Also, when was Diesel killed?
