Spot on.
He holds alot of responsability for where we are at the moment. The funny thing is he thinks he is totally innocent!
I don't need to go through all the drop kicks he brought on board....
He's admitted his responsibility before. The thing is, when you're on the verge of a flag, the natural thing is to "top up" the list in the short term to try to get you over the line. If it wins you a flag, great, then like Port Adelaide, you then eventually have to go back and rebuild as you go down the ladder. Depends too how you " top up . A side like Sydey's been in the finals nearly every year since 1996. They finds the right blokes to "top up" their team, filling their holes, and have been very successful. Not many no.1 picks there. How good was it giving up their first round piuck for Darren Jolly! Been terrific. So there's a skill to it. Admittedly we were terrible at it, probably because it was done without any great direction with the type of player we were targetting, but you can see why they go doen that path. Hickmott, Pearce, Clape, Manton, Hogg etc.... were terrific for us and it helped us win a flag. On the other hand Mansfield (why!!!!!!!....an all time shocker), O'Reilly etc....were disasterous. Not to mention our terrible drafting in 2000, probably the final nail in the coffin. We did take longer than we should've embracing the draft. In hindsight, we should 've looked at it more after we missed the finals in 1997.
So there is more than one way of looking at it. If it workds, you're a genius, if it doesn't you're a flower wit.
