Didn't actually take her on head to head.

Was actually a bit side tracked.

Wants to meet with Caroline Wilson for a coffee in the future to cover some of the issues she raised in the article which she was scathing of a lack of business plan.

http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/real ... 42068.html

The club has a sound business plan going ahead.

Plenty of good work has been done and is being done and the building blocks a falling into place.

- Operating costs are down and more manageable

- Princes Park / Mc Labour Park redevelopment wheels are in motion

- On field things are changing

- New assistants

Anyone else get a listen.

what a non-event!

she acts tough in print but was absolutely timid and avoided any potential clashes by offering to discuss things in private with Malouf.

Perhaps they have organised to have a meet session to appease the Medusa!

What did you expect? She's just a gossip queen, not like she knows anything about footy let alone have a debate on it.

True Game. She's a gutter journalist just like one of the last callers said about her piece during the week!

I haven’t listened to AW for a long time as its prime target audience is the geriatric, redneck element of society. I realised after having it on for the past 2 hours exactly why I won’t be tuning in again. For starters, they promised an interview with Kevin Muscat and nothing eventuated. They hate the sport anyway, probably because of its cultural links! That’s another story though.

They just don’t the know sh!t about anything, including AFL which is their staple sport. They are shocking. The AFL have already pointed out that Fev will be funding his own way home after refusing to board the London-Melbourne leg of his return journey which was AFL funded. Because he chose to go his own way he pays for it out of his pocked. Common sense you’d think…

And what is with this obsession that Fev will have to travel back to Ireland if charges are laid. Get real! As if he will be extradited for a minor assault claim like that!!! What a joke! If a case does go ahead it will proceed in his absence and that will be it. Just so dumb

I hate sports radio but for some reason I listen more than I should, but it is rife with dumbos who are obviously employed to inject some sort of personality to the broadcast when they are in reality painfully mind-numbing and generally have zero sport knowledge and are barely passable with AFL which is the only sport they have any exposure too.

That’s the one thing with Australian sports radio. Very poor with quality content and well-informed discussion

Is there anything in her article that is untrue?

Malouf is a lovely bloke but he is out of his depth. He fumbled and bumbled his way through the interview. Caro write an article that demonstrates the ineptitude at Carlton at the moment and Malouf had the opportunity to set the record straight.
What did he say?

They are going to have a latte together.
How reassuring.

Get serious BV. How can she know anything?

She's a woman, she's ugly, she has a lisp, her father was President of Richmond...yada yada yada...

It really is the @#$%&! off season isn't it?

This place is so sadly predictable at the moment. :?

BV, I am as critical as the next bloke in terms of the board and CEO, but Michael responded appropriately and did summarise that a business plan is in place (finally) and mentioned a few key strategic goals that were being realised like youth policy, redevelopment of facilities, etc. He approached it as best he could under the circumstances.

Michael does have a tendency to fumble his way through interviews but if anything the onus was on Caro this time to take to Malouf with a blowtorch after her scathing article during the week instead all she did was meekly retreat and avoid any scrutiny or debate on the criticisms she raised in her article.

I think it reflected badly on Caro instead of Michael. Either way it was a let-down

Don't know about him being a lovely bloke. Know people who have seen him in full flight during his Council days. Has a mean streak. Read somewhere ssome of the Directors where questioning his "management style"

Informed by a close friend he is a very good networker making sure he aligns himself to the right people at the top. I want more from my CEO that what he is capable of giving. If I was Carlton I would restrict Malouf's media contact. There was nothing positive to report from that interaction.

What are we paying our CEO at the moment? Whatever it is I would be prepared to double the salary to attract someone decent and competent whilst we are down on our needs.

You are on the ball BV. Whilst others focus on prune face who by the way is just doing her job, we continue to exonerate club officials from blame.

Conundrum

It's often very easy to forget how much a pauper our football club is - or allows itself to be presented as. In all but the PP redevelopment, which uses other people's money, we are miles behind on the leaders of the competition and really have no cash to throw around at anything. The Club remains on a shoe-string and I doubt we all realise how dependent on volunteers they are.

The upshot of this is that removing people from contracts is harder than it otherwise would be and also, we are unlikely to be able to attract big names to fill other positions.

If I am wrong then my view of working with the Club is that we remain short of funds and a cross-spread of good people, which you tend to be able to buy with $.

I am gratified that it seems we are expanding the football department but I doubt many would be on the big bucks. I think that's part of the reason for so many part-time assistants.

We can all dream of what the Club needs to do but unless the Big Boys take over the Club and put the cash in, or the members embrace the Club and sign-up to 35,000 or so, which isn't going to happen, I can't see the picture improving. It's grind, grind, grind away and hope that the young players can lead us out of the wilderness (Which begs the question of what the hell they were trying to do in 2006....).

Some would say if we didnt try to cover our debts we could put $ towards bigger and better things. Those who have worked in a horribly overgeared business know that this is a risky and difficult strategy.

Unfortunately I think you are right. While we all would love to see this group of cashed up people come in and get the club moving, I have doubts about it happening. Some people are certain it is going to happen, and we will have to wait and see.

I think your second picture, of grinding away is more likely going to happen. Assuming there is no white knight, I would like to see the current board continue in it's recent direction of getting out there more and talking to it's supporters. The way the system is set up, we will start winning soon, and when that happens, money will return. What is the saying?? The world is slow, but the Ox is patient. Well, I feel like a bloody Ox!

Classical chicken and egg scenario. You have to get good people to turn the club around. If they got good people, announced it, and made it sound like we were making progress, you'd get members on board. We'd also start to improvement in the operation.

If we need better people, we HAVE to get them.

When it is all said and done the club must be on the upturn in the cyle to break free of the debt situation. It is therefore imperative that when we do get back on top the past mistakes are not repeated.
