But just in case - I would offer our pick 12 ...

Your a good poster Old.

A realistic trade suggestion for a very good tall defender.

Still prefer to keep him though and I think we will.

Sounds as though the club is trying to foment a bit more positive thought in this area. He is a "Must".

However, it always helps to have a few contingency plans - negotiations do not always go the way we want them to.

What the @#$%&!? sorry, WTF? I just clicked on the Thornton CFC site link and I could have sworn there was a link to a Betts' story on the home page which disappeared before my eyes?

Have I had too many pints?

Not worried at all if Thornton leaves. Gives opportunities to others, especially Setanta, who I think will have a big impact in 2007. Hartlett, Bower, Flint, Edwards may get a few games each. All good.
:-D

The issue isnt just Bret Thornton. The concern for me is the willingness of players to contemplate leaving.
David Parkin made a comment on WLF tonight that has been a hobby horse of mine for a couple of years now.

Unless we can offer a vision and hope to our players, they cant be blamed for looking elsewhere.

I have no doubt that many players are there for friendships only ATM.
They have no feelings of pride or affiliation with the Carlton Football Club.
I'd also suggest we have been and will continue to pay over the odds to retain players which reduces our list strength.
Until we provide an enjoyable, professional and progressive environment which displays some sort of future, we will endure this problem on a yearly basis.

The most disappointing aspect is the solution is within reach. You can see it and almost touch it.
We just need someone who can lead us in the right direction. Big changes are needed and the biggest sell of all time needs to follow.

Lets hope someone has the commitment and balls to start our stalled engines because Bret Thornton wont be the last player looking to leave.

Parko mentioned there were 4 of our young players contemplating jumping ship from what he has heard. No names obviously.

Not a good sign. The club needs to sew a couple up to get the momentum moving.

Chasing players to re-sign them is OK but its reactive. Just what our club specialises in.
We need to be proactive and address why they want to leave.

Forget the cure, prevent the ill.

I have been critical of the board over the past few months however lets give the club some credit and say they are not negotiating his contract in public which is what they have said all along - the rest is media beat up.

The media are getting their reports from somewhere Agro. No way every single uncontracted player is going to the media, it's coming from football department/board.

The rat is hard at work. Has been for weeks now. When he or she is gone life will be a lot better for the Carlton Football Club.

That's most likely. Thank god that humans are social animals, and there's something human keeping them together inspight of the fact that its due to the simplist form of intelligence after instictive actions for self preservation (air, water, food, shelter, clothing); socialisation. That says the club offers muddy waters.

Keep Thornton and 2 more players will want to stay, who may impact a decision our way with 2 more players,

Its really important to reevaluate the ranking system; or change each players ranking accordingly. Atm we need a bit of everything, and as a result we can't afford to lose anything that we've got that's highly ranked. Thornton's our spine atm not the 3rd flanker.

And ther's your vision CFC board. It's time for the board to stop playing politics and start showing their cards. What's happening?

If Thornton decides to go or if the board stuffs up, we will still have a good young team, where all but 3 are not contracted beyond 2007.

No - I am convinced it comes from Brett's manager who is trying the Alison tactics.

Unfortunately "leaks" at all levels are a part of life. From John Howard's Cabinet, to Corporate Boards, from Football Club Committees (try being on your son's football club committee - the leaks and backstabbing are horrendous  ) - gossiping/leaking is part of the human condition and it goes on everywhere.

The Board has said it would not negotiate contracts through the media and it hasn't.

David Parkin is a Hawthorn man at the moment.

Hawthorn are chasing Thornton.

Parkin said everything you would expect a Hawthorn man to say.

Really?

What is his role at Hawthorn?

I don't recall saying he had a role at Hawthorn.

Please point it out to me. 8)
