Liked 17th's analysis of Williams game.
I noticed how Jagga's team mates are already run ahead when they see him get the ball, knowing he can find them.
Cripps...was ok: is obviously too slow so it might take a while to find the most effective (and also least costly) ways to use him and his strengths.
Pittonet really good.
Defence held up pretty well: should be really solid with Weiters back.
Hope Wilson comes along quickly and replaces Saad.
Some good signs from Chesser.

We are so much quicker - and cleaner. Enjoyable to watch.
Love watching live at Princes Park; so many good memories.

Dare I say

Still undefeated in 2026 :)

Yeah fair to say I don’t think we are going to miss JSOS. Looks like we got a younger, taller, more athletic, more durable, and much, much cheaper version. Early days I’ll admit but it’s not like replacing JSOS is the highest bar to clear. He pretty much had half a season of top level footy as a defender.

Kudos to the recruitment team.

sos was a great player. he just couldn't stay healthy and his style of play was not conducive to staying healthy.

Two praccy games played and I’m pleased to see 8 quarters of effort and a competitive mindset.

Running in twos and threes, backline and midfield and outnumbering opposition around the contested balls oozes confidence in each other.

Backline has 6 players missing and I can honestly say the current lot are good enough to defend any opponent. Two reasons. One is the effort of each individual to win or nullify the contest knowing another defender will be there in support, with options ahead of the ball. Two, the midfield pressure has been immense and showing superior fitness against premiership contenders.

Loving the run from the backline. Thought Saad beat his opponent and gave us some run. Williams always makes options happen, looks everywhere to crest options then by foot, too good. Loved Boyd’s on the field. Either of those 3 running backs are capable of snagging a goal. I expect to see more of that during the year as we find more confidence.

Forwardline is so multi dimensional. Missed a lot of easy shots at goal, and Harry, our focal point contested well to bring the ball to the ground where our smalls and mids move to like moths to a light. Pressure pressure pressure. Ainsworth, Evans, Smith are amazing in the forwardline. Add Byrne and that is a hard nosed group of smalls who know where goals are, and Harry didn’t kick a goal and we won. That says everything about season 2026.

We won without Harry kicking and Hayward rested in the 2nd half. Our two best forwards. I think Kemp could get better, and Moir did well to take Grundy and Steward away from the ball.

And it starts with Pitto. The new rules are against his type, but with him fit, we know what he can do. add Reidy and we have options in the ruck. Not sure if OKeefe will be selected vs Swans, but he wasn’t missed.

Im happy the the list, the method and the commitment of the group. They are playing for each other. Skills have improved, as has the running, and I expect the skills to improve when we really click.

Upside upside upside. Walsh and Jagga…what a combo. Hayward and Ainsworth what a combo. Saad Williams and Florent… what a combo. Young, Derksen Dean what a combo.

Bring on season 2026. We ar3 a different team culturally, physically, speed wise, competitively and skills.

Cleaned out the crap. The dark clouds have moved on.New President, CEO and Footy Manager. Three new coaches. 2nd year for S&C manager. 9 New players. But still have an army of 100,000 plus supporters with voice. I think we can go one step better than 2023.

If you are anything like me I cringe when I see all the turnovers and missed kicks and handballs
Both Geelong and Lions actually turned the ball over more than we did
I thinks with this fast up and back basketball style of play that seems to have taken over the AFL the turnover is going to become the norm for all sides - Its taking advantage of these is what is going to separate the good sides from the bad.
I liked the fact there were times last night where they actually slowed the play down and controlled the ball

We are going to get frustrated watching it but we are going to have to live with it . Fitness and bench rotations are going to become critical

I'll add, we all know that Geelong and the Lions will reduce their turnovers and increase disposal eff as the year goes on.
We on the other hand are an unknown, given the additions this year surely that can only improve, hopefully others come along for the ride.

Interesting stats from last night.
We only had 1 player in Evans, have less than %60 disposal eff. at 47%
And we only had 4 players kicking at 50% or less, well down from last year when we had over half the team at times with poor kicking.

The bigger issue for us is sometimes we let ourselves down disposal wise at crucial times in either defence or attack chains and under little pressure.
Clean that up and we will start to dominate more in games.

I also noticed a few times last night that when we were under pressure from opposition players and had the ball, our handballs/knock ons/kicks were too rushed/fumbly and we went from hot player to hot player to sometimes clearing the ball to sometimes not. And when Geelong were in the same position, a lot of the times they were able to make better decisions and create space from the contest quicker and cleaner.
Not sure if that is a speed/reaction problem or decision making problem but I hope we work on that a bit more as the year goes on.
Jagga was by far the more superior out there for us in creating space from nothing, hopefully a few more can join him.
I would hate for him to stop giving off hot handballs because his team mates can't dispose the ball quick enough when they get it.

Either way it is good to be finally having discussions about players playing more of the current game style.
A lot of positives out of last night.

Love it Bondi
