I might be a bit thick, but isn't there a salary cap? and total player payment levels? and aren't all clubs required to pay at least something like 92.5% of the salary cap?

Seriously, the only point Synbad is making is that because of additional payments that are allowed under the salary cap rules -- whether it be because of marketing or veteren payments -- the club was maxing out and at the top end of player payments. As for the $1 million contract Kouta is on, I haven't seen him, his manager or anyone deny the fact that he was on contract in that vicinity. If you guys seriously think that paying one guy around 20% of total player payments is healthy for the club and doesn't lead to resentment within the playing group and skew everyone's perspective as to what they're worth you're mistaken.
