hi all, word is they offered him a $500K reduction, meaning would be on $400K next year.

IF he got offered that the club have been more than generous and he should have signed straight away without all this fuss. Who at the club are on more than that? Stevens, Fev, Lance. That would put him in the top 4 and he's hardly a top 4 player.

Kouta has to take responsibility for what his manager says. Allison wont say a word that Kouta doesnt approve of. That is a fact.

Don't forget the coffee meeting set up with the Swans. You can't always say Allison is manipulating Anthony.

Kouta hasnt come to terms with the fact he isnt an A-Grade player anymore. He cant/wont chase, his marking has slipped. His athleticism is 50% of what it was.

$200k is a fair offer. He hurts the team as much as he helps it at times.
I think this is the clubs way of saying that Kouta should retire without looking that they made the decison for him.

I love Kouta and I have nothing but positive memories esp 2000 which is the best I have seen from any player but it is time to go. Carlton are he are best served if he retires without this noise

Probably not....thats at least 2.

I really just wanted to see what mizrachi would come up with.

Better players on a lot less than $200K?

In 2004, the average gross salary for an AFL player who played at least one game was $211,230.

Next year it will be $212,830 for no games, and closer to $220,000 for just one game.

and by the way I think Kouta should retire

Nah that doesnt work at all. If there was no talk in the press the Club would be paying too much money. Someone needed to break the chain of these ridiculous high contracts and looks like its worked.

It is impossible to imagine the agents of Voss, Buckley, Hird and Riccuito behaving the way David Allison does.

It is impossible to imagine those players permitting their agents to act as David Allison does.

If Koutoufides had only just employed Allison, and Allison had never performed this way before, I could excuse Koutoufides.

The reality is that Koutoufides has been down this road before with his parasite agent, so we are back in familiar territory, despite the fact that our captain has been the highest remunerated player in AFL history.

This season our fearless leader has clearly demonstrated that he is past playing at AFL standard, yet has been allegedly offered $200,000 at a time when the club should be insisting he retire.

When I think back on the career of Koutoufides, I will reflect on the on-field performances which were sometimes great. I will also vividly remember his extorting of our club, his lack of leadership during our darkest hours and the lasting stench of his contract negotiations; particularly this time 'round.

This is the way Koutoufides has always treated our club, and I have no respect for him as a consequence.

Shit has hit the fan over Kouta. The board has offered him about $200,000 to play next year. Just a lazy $900,000 paycut! He and Allison spewing. Kouta WANTS TO PLAY ON but not for what the club is offering. Allison says Kouta will retire if the club doesn't increase the offer. Expect this in the papers tomorrow.

Excuse me everyone but where is the evidence in this???

You could well be telling the truth but if thats the case I think Kouta is entitled to be peeved at 200k...

Put another 50 or 100k on top of that and then it would be fair... James Hird would react the same if the club offers him something like that for next year, not only Kouta...

Guys give him a break... I think just about no other supporter base berates our top players like us carlton supporters...

For such a proud club and fan-base its really dissappointing...

Some supporters also can never be pleased... *cough* u guys know who u are!...

No 1Blue - drawing a long bow to compare Hird and Kouta, Hird would be entitled to ask for more as he is still an influential player there. If Kouta wanted to play on we have to pay him on what he is worth on the field, not much difference in output between him and Deluca at the moment.

Kouta bashing?

I'll give you Kouta bashing.

When it comes to rating the full package (leadership, promotional capacity, football) Anthony Koutoufides is not James Hird's arsehole.

Kouta was a great player in his prime but anyone suggesting he's worth even keeping on the list next year either hasn't seen him play over the last few years or is simply daft.

The fact that Dave Allison is out and about at the moment seals the deal as far as I'm concerned. The two of them can @#$%&! right off. Sick to death of listening to sad little sods whining on about the possibility of no longer being able to get a boner from their "Adonis".

The guy's been sponging off the club for years and every time a contract issue comes up he sends his little lapdog out to slag off the club.

As JW says - this just doesn't happen with other players. The common link with these sorts of sordid dealing is Anthony Koutoufides.

Players willing to take the big bucks need to realise that with that comes a responsibility to the fans, the club and the game.

Kouta's responsibility starts and stops with Kouta.

Always has and based on Dave's efforts over the last 24 hours it appears that it always will.

Whilst fans continue to be stuck in the 70s and fail to realise footy has moved on from "the good old days" and that every minute of every day of every club is influenced by money, they will continue to be disappointed like this and about there not being enough biffo out on the ground.

I reckon 90% of this thread is a comment about how much Kouta should be on. Even the most ardent Kouta lover would have to agree that Kouta's output hasn't matched his paypacket since 2002 and that there has to be a huge question mark over retaining a 34 year old when youre stuck on the bottom.

The fact that it's not the 1970s doesn't excuse Dave Allison and Kouta's "negotiating techniques". Other players seem to manage okay without doing the same thing.

I'm just posting this to see if I can get this thread to go to the 10th page. This thread is why the Herald Sun print lame ass stories. They get a reaction that really is not worthy of a reaction at all.
Keep going.

GWS, does David Allison have any other players on his books? (at Carlton or otherwise)

Seriously, it's highly irrelevant. Until Koutoufides decides if he wants to play on or not, everything else is hot air, speculation, and (for the most part) out and out lies.

I believe Hamill still is and Campo(?).

That's about it I think.
