The President of a Club doesn't really need to know about football, that's the Football Department's problem.

The President's role is to ensure the Club is profitable and runs properly, and achieves whatever it can off-field.

Who would you like to see on the board Speedy?

It's a fair point. I think people get excited over his business acumen and $$$ more than anything else. Thats fine, but we need to look at our football directors are the same time. Mark Maclure is a guy that should be able to bring experience on both the football and business side. He said a couple of months ago he wasn't interested in being involved with us, but if we can get others involved he may jump on board.

TBB Didn't he say that though (apparently) when told we didnt have an overarching business plan?

its interesting to see that Smorgon has business plans for most if not all of his other businesses but doesn't support one at Carlton. Its the first place to cheeck up on to see what you are trying to do, how you are going, and how close you are to your target!

I dont know about passed-on money - the main reason to bring on someonelike that is to deliver the money. I much prefer self-made people who bring passion to the Club, support the plan and spruik the name. The Club in itself should be utilised as the vessel to generate the funds. We shouldnt be jumping up and down looking for 'benefactors' just because they have money - they dont need to be Directors to give money. Any Carlton fan can do that and 29000 of us do it every year in return for some games.

Not unusual for suburban footy end of year trips..(no official..)
Mathieson cares and probably has a swing or two still up his sleeve.
Gleeson is not the centre of attraction anymore.....................
Sticks is everyones best friend even Maloufs.. but Smorgon has been a supporter too... (Watch this space)
Grollo???.. dont know.. but thyere are a couple of businessmen on the ticket from what i understand that have things to offer....

I think stuff is about to happen...

We are going nowhere with what we have right now.

Pagan is a more of a liability than an asset and the current board doesnt have a lot of credibility and also has average at best business skills.

A fresh new look Carlton board and a new coach will do wonders for our club.

Pagan has had enough time. players dislike him and he lacks fresh ideas.

The only unanswered question is who will replace him.

I can answer by saying that the new Carlton coach will be a young man in his first coaching role.

Carlton experiences a sudden and dramatic improvememt which looks like it comes out of nowhere. But for most footy watchers who follow our team closely. the seeds of a future have already been sown, just need to be wisely added to in this draft and in the next.

We are not far from our resurgance really,

Following the best part of a decade in the wilderness, we will end up as we always were - thereabouts - and the worst saga in our history will be at an end.

If the new board were to be elected in December, and made the decision to pay out Pagan and replace him, then that what leave 2 weeks (max) before xmas break to find a new coach. If a new coach isn't found pre xmas then interviews would have to start in Jan 2007 in search of the right candidate. The new coach would likely start in February. A bit late you'd reckon.

With all the specualtion of StKildas search for a coach (no deadline), they have done the legwork to shake out the the available candidates (our scoping already done) and with the Swans' assistant coach Longmire having completed his duties for the year, that would leave Bond, Longmire and McKenna as the only likely first year candidates with assistant coaching experience. Assume one is taken by StKilda, that leaves 2. We would hope that they would be interested in coming to Carlton, and they might given the new board would give us a plan and hope,as well as having a good list of 30 kids under 23 to work with.

I just get the feeling that we have left the change of coach too late, unless we snagged Bond straight up before the xmas break...then ofcourse he would have to spend quality time with the players before their holidays to steady the ship.

Very unsettling stuff, but no doubt better in December than mid season.

Smorgon...tick, tick,tick...time is running out...for your sake and the club's you better have some amazing announcements that gives us relief from this current state of drifting in the next 2 weeks following the GF.

Id still like to know what theyre going to decide about the PP.
Smorgon is not a fan of going to courts the messy nature of them doesnt agree with him.
On the admin side its watch this space.......
Denis is still on some kind of tenderhooks.
Come election time its going to be up to each and every one of us that feels like the club needs a change to make a change by voting.

One thing Parko is quoted in the papers this morning as saying, and he's spot on, is "LEADERSHIP" - we need it cause we don't have it.

I hope those that challenge for the board have this important ingredient, cause we need it, BADLY.

Talking about leadership at the top level this CEO would be a great get.

Amazing what a good CEO can do to get you out of the mire.
Instead we keep going on about Elliot and draft penalties

Sound familiar?

Its all about approach.
Some choose to batten down the hatches, wallow in self pity and go into survival mode.
Others choose to offer a vision and grasp the future.

Rose is a man of action. A doer.

We just get people who continually sell us down the river.
