Just on the Nicholls/Fevola issue.I can never recall seeing a photo of Big Nick nonchalantly leaning against the boundary fence mid game.

That shot of Fevola is permanently etched in my memory. The day that his credibility was forever tarnished IMHO!

I rarely publicly knock players but his attitude was not what you should expect of a highly remunerated Footballer.

He wasn't highly remunerated when you saw that

but he was when he was talking about the end of season trip in the half time break against Essendon*

if he was not highly paid at the time is it still any excuse for that sort of behaviour?

For leaning against the fence their probably is, the fact he should not have even been out there in the first place and he'd be in constant pain.

I didn't know he talked about the end of season trip as he wont even be going on it as it'll be his honeymoon

Who else was on the table Fev was sitting at when the comments were made?

Did anyone say anything at the time?

Board members?

Coaches?

Captains?

Leadership group?

Players?

Anyone?

So if I'm piecing this together, Big Nick delivers a speech where he makes comments about bad body language etc to which Fev retorts "That's me". Big Nick continues on with his motivational speech, and a "merry" Fevola who I believe possibly feels that it's partly directed at him personally and makes a comment along the lines of "Why won't the old prick just shut up?".

Is that about right?

So,are you suggesting that the fact that he might have only been on $200k p.a. excuses him from pulling a stunt like that?

And a couple more -

Are we certain he said it during Nicholls' speech?

Did the Ghost get up & recite poetry at any stage?

Caroline Wilson has had the knives out for anyone on the Footy show.

Everitt, Nathan Brown,Crawford to name a few. She has repeatedly written about them and there shortcomings. The latest taregt is Fevola who also happens to be a high profile member of the Footy Show.

I am not saying that her opinion is wrong about any of them but she does target them and keeps going on and on about them.

That needs to be taken into account when considering her opinions. Nobody else has written anything about it yet or anything factual come out about what Fev said and it has been 5 days already.

I'm confused at why it was such a massive stunt

its not considered acceptable behaviour for a professional footabller

if he wants to have a laugh and a kick with no responsibility and consequences for his behaviour he can go to the local league - but they wont pay what hes after.

its like me coming in to work in a tracksuit and falling asleep at my desk when everyone else is working on a big project...

You'd have taken the day off with sick leave, or your boss would have forced you to.

Care to elaborate on the end of season trip comment?

I'm big enough to make my own decisions about sick leave if I think I'm sick or injured then I can stay home, if I come in then I'm expected to do my best. Same goes for everyone else.

It is widely believed (not there personally but source is rather accurate) that during the half time break against Essendon* fevola was more interested in discussing the end of season trip/mad monday

pagan was furious and decided that best way to punish brendan wasn't to bench him because then he gets to be lazy but rather put him in a position where he will have to work his butt off and be on the receiving end of a hiding, hence his stint at full back.

I don't care if his balls are on fire and he's got ants up his arse, you don't lean on a fence in an AFL game. That was it for me too, just pathetic.

People like this aren't capable of playing elite sport. We've seen it with many at CFC and we'll see it with Nathan Ablett - they've got the Steven Olivers about them.

Stephen Oliver never wanted to play AFL and he made it clear from the get go...

Heard his name brought up in the Laurie Angwin fiasco and now this as well..

Oliver wanted to stay with his family and friends in Bendigo, and told Carlton this.

He didn't get shipped out because of drug use or bagging club legends.. Yet is always mentioned in the same breath.

Can people stop bringing this blokes name up in topics like this?

I agree Benny, my point is he, like our friend Fev, was less than committed to AFL football. Whether he took drugs or not is irrelevant.

It take an amazing mental strength to handle the big time - I would imagine we have, and never will see the most physically gifted people playing the game because of this, but it doesn't excuse any player from acting the way he has done the past few years.
