There are only two years left to use the draft before the cherry picking of talent gets scooped up by Tasmania. Unless you expect Carlton to win a flag in these two years you would want them to maximise their use of these two drafts else there would be another wasted decade.

Bringing talent into a losing culture... It's what we have done for over 20 years. Why change now?

Clearly our recruitment is pathetic brought in 5 players last year and 3 of them couldn’t even get a game in the AFL
Chesser struggled at west coast and the came last
Ready 3 rd string at Freo and you can see why he on played a couple of games for them
Florent another vfl player see why Sydney didn’t want him
Hayward gone backwards see arrival at Carlton
Ainsworth has been good the pick of the 5 but that wouldn’t be hard

I think you are being too harsh.
Chesser was injured a lot while at West Coast. When fit he played. I think he played the last 7 games last year and they wanted to keep him.
Florent was always picked in Longmires side and it was only Cox took over as coach that he preferred others.
As for Reidy, well ruckman take time and I am guessing that only Gawn would replace one of the two rucks at Freo.

If we don't make a lot of additions to improve the team next year, I'm heading to Greek islands for winter in 2027.

Adding running forwards Hayward and Ainsworth, and Florent added running depth but didn't move the needle much, given we lost KP players Charlie, SOS and TDK. Dean was always going to be developing. and Jagga was drafted previous year.

That's our haul from last Trade Draft season: 3 small good players.

If Austin hasn't netted a couple stars and another half dozen good players to add to this list, along with walker, he's failed at his duty before the Tassie compromised drafts start imo. I said this last year, after the Trade period. I expect Austin with war chest and a few firsts in hand to surprise us in 2026. Need to add quality to the plethora of kids he's amassed since 2023.

Well Vossy wont be having a say. His opinion was discounted with Houston. Go figure his influence.

Vossy may admit where the holes are for his game plan or just his opinion.

It is up to Austin to have his talent scouts look under every rock in every league across the country.

I know there's at least 2 gems in each of SAFL WAFL and VFL....then there's a couple in Darwin too. Get 6-7 from there plus Trade for Talent too.

I'm sure GW will be in collusion with Austin given his background with List Mgt and Talent.

I'm hoping there's a plan in place from last year coming to fruition this Trade period.

It's kind of a shame that Tasmania isn't coming into the competition for another couple of years. They're gonna have a lot of picks they have to trade and we have some pretty well paid players they could afford...

WHO IS CARLTON’S BEST PLAYER RIGHT NOW?

On Champion Data ratings it’s their ruckman Marc Pittonet and he is 25th in the competition.

Bravo Marc, but it’s not the profile you need to succeed.

Walsh is ranked 30th, Zach Williams a surprise 40th, Ollie Florent 67th, Mitch McGovern 84th and Patrick Cripps 90th.

https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/wreck-it-ralph-17-reasons-why-theres-no-way-michael-voss-will-last-the-rest-of-2026/news-story/15e929a4d981c890d56cf60fc67a65c6

Lame Pitto, turns 29 this year, but can only compete at maximum effort for 60% Game time (54% vs StK) is our best thus far. He was leading our goal kicking before he broke his hand. His contract end in 2027. Worse still is we need a replacement for him at the end of this year if we are going to have a bonafide ruck for 80% GT next year.

Zac Williams turns 32 this year. (contract ends 2026)
McGovern turns 32 this year. (contract ends 2026)
Cripps turns 31 this year. (contract end next year)

More holes when they are gone.

6. WHAT [CARLTON] LACK

If you want to make the case Melbourne’s list is better, it’s because of Kozzie Pickett.

Fair enough.

He perfectly suits the modern game with elite speed, quality skills, dynamic finishing.

But it illustrates the point that Carlton’s A graders don’t have any of those things.

Patrick Cripps is a clearance beast in a game that last year turned into a running race.

Sam Walsh has the pace and grunt but not the kicking skills.

Jacob Weitering is a 2024 All Australian who does not rank elite in any Champion Data category this season.

I said Hayward & Ainsworth are average players who will struggle at Carlton. I got shut down quickly by stating how Hayward kicked 30 Goals last year and how Ainsworth was turning it on at the Gold Coast!

As for Florent, no one knew that last year, he was already iced and left out of the Senior Side because Sydney knew he was past it!

If you declare everything as shit you're bound to get some right. Can you show any posts where you've made a positive prediction that came true?

I'll give you that Reidy isn't much good. We had to recruit a ruck, but maybe Flynn Riley or someone from state leagues would have sufficed. Reidy didn't cost much, but still looks a waste.

Ainsworth and Florent have been among our best players - you're welcome to disagree but TC MVP and Supercoach both agree - the eye test and the stat test. Hayward has been underwhelming so far but playing a different role. All 3 filled a gap in our age/ experience profile, as I've mentioned several times.

Bringing in these blokes for a half-arsed Curnow is not the problem, and I think it's still a good trade even if Sydney tops the ladder the next two years to put minimum value on the first round picks. Losing TDK and JSOS (at least while he's fit) have been more detrimental given our midfield and defensive capitulations.

But the biggest cause of our downfall by far is the shocking form of our key pillars: Weitering, Cripps and McKay. Our board-obsesssed friend keogh likes to talk about the fish rotting from the head, well it's certainly true in the microcosm of the football field.

Thanks GE

I think the last paragraph is the biggest concern. They have to improve or replaced. Finding a new star mid, star kPF and star FB isn’t as easy as it sounds, especially when we have other holes to fill, starting with ruck. Is there a cheap Grundy floating out there for the taking?

Look what Swans paid for Charlie. Doggies coukdnt find a FB when Jones got too old, until FS picks plugged them up, and where’s the next Lachie Neale or Dawson for a first round pick?

The hardest game in footy is attracting the best talent. Even harder for Carlton List Mgrs is picking the best talent with first round picks….gosh SOS fkd us up.

Our Key Pillar Players are a Huge Part of the Problem & the ongoing Fade outs every Week. Here is an outline of what has happened:

1- Lack of Leadership: Our Senior players are not leading from the front. There is very little communications, screaming, teaching and taking ownership when the other teams get their momentum.

2- Lack of Care: This is a Serious concern and is a direct product of my first Point. Many of our Senior players have already checked out. They don't seem to be interested anymore. There is something behind the scenes going on and no one wants to admit it nor talk about it.

My Guess and I am 99% certain I am right ( because of the close connection I have with some people within the club) is that our Senior Group have fallen badly with Voss. They are angry & Frustrated at him because of lack of Clarity & Game plan. This friction made the exit of SOS, Charlie & TDK alot easier for them.

I been told that the issue with VOSS goes all the way back to the way he handled Matt Kennedy and how he refused to give him time to play in the middle and develop and then the final punch of that last Game when Kennedy put the club ahead of his Family & went to play in Brisbane but was humiliated by Voss by getting subbed out. He was also made to play in the Ruck which further humiliated him. This has made some Senior players angry and the friction is still ongoing until today.

Weitering has totally lost interest. He is next in line. He won't be at Carlton next year. GH is another one where Voss continues to have beef with for no apparent reason. He will be seeking a Trade next year.

3- Our Senior players are getting old. They are not the same players as yesterday. There are some things they can no longer do on the footy field. Crippa is a perfect example. Age is catching up with him. The issue with him is that he refuses to admit it. He still wants to be the man. He still wants to do it all himself. This is not leadership, this is selfishness. When the team was getting smashed in the middle this week, last week and every previous week, Crippa refused to give up his spot to someone else. He, Wash & Cerra continued to be the main players in the middle. The Coaching Staff should have intervened and said We need to try something different. They didn't.

In addition to the Senior group, then you have the serious issue of bad Coaching, bad recruiting, bad management, poor Board decisions and you have all the ingredients for a total failure. Change is the only way to get us out of this mess.

The Club should have done what Melbourne did. Part ways with the Coach, Get rid of some senior players when they still had some currency in them, ie Cerra, McGovern, Williams & co. Instead, we got rid of good players who are now flourishing at other clubs.

You had me until the last paragraph, are Owies, Curnow, Durdin and JSOS really “flourishing” at other clubs? I don’t see any major improvement over when they were playing for us.

Melbourne got rid of Petracca and Oliver who ARE flourishing at other clubs.

We’ve changed coaches quickly before, it’s never worked this century, why will it work now? Let’s see how the demons are going this time next year. Remember, they have Max Gawn and Kysaiah, while we have Cripps and Walsh.

Dude, have you been watching some of their Games?

Durdin has been a shinning light at Port, especially the last 3 weeks. He is kicking Goals, he is tackling, he is doing everything we badly needed at Carlton. He is enjoying his footy. Flourishing doesn't mean they get better or go a level higher.

Charlie is back to doing what he always did at Carlton except the last 2 years. His presence alone in the forward line is a reason why Sydney are sitting on top.

Jsos has been solid down back at the Saints.

Only Owies struggled to get going at West Coast. Old age caught up with him, injuered most of this year, but when he was at Carlton, he was a reliable shot on Goal. He was a regular goal kicker 1+, 2+ Goals per game. He also put an effort in.

The issue with Recruitment is that when you give up all those players, you expect new players in return who will do the same or Better. Austin has scwered us up because he failed to bring in quality players to make up for what we lost. Had the new recruits been able to carry the club forward, we wouldn't have been talking about what we gave up.

Watching On the Couch showing all the Trades Austin has added for Voss in the last 5 years.

Its putrid.

Take out the last minute forced trade for Hayward and Florent from Charlie trade. Here's his planned targets:

Cerra Young Hewett
Acres
Fantasia
Evans
Ainsworth

They said we can't attract stars. That's not fair because we had stars on every line in 2023. I keep hearing our salary cap was full, but Austins problem is he didnt think outside the square, or doesnt have the knack to attract stars, SOS didnt fair any better with all his GWS retreads.

Maybe its Carlton.

Lets hope Ainsworth can sway his mate Bailey Humphrey (who we courted for a Trade last year) to choose Carlton (over Hawthorn). We need him badly.
Lets hope that's not all he trades into the club, assuming we get him.

Austin has a full deck of Draft picks and a war chest from Charlie TDK SOS Doc, Orazio, Owies, Gov plus Saad Young Haynes Acrres Fog Boyd....possibly Gov again, Williams.

Spend it wisely Austin.

Just talking to a carlton mad mate in Melbourne about our ruck situation after comparing our 2 rucks vs Sainst 2 rucks.

If Austin picks the Best ruck in the WAFL and the best ruck in SAFL, they will be better for us in 2027 than Pitto and reidy.

Its a must.

There will be up to 10 spots to fill come years end

2 Draftees Walker plus (hopefully) another 1st rounder (2026 rnd 1 x 2)
1 Promote Charleson (2026 Rnd 5)
2 Rucks (SAFL/WAFL/VFL) (2026 Rnd 3) (2026 Rnd 4)
1 FA (Best we can get KPF)
1 Trade mid (Humphries) (Ist 2027 2 x 2nd 2026)
1 Trade mid (A grader) (1st 2027 2nd 2027)
1 Best available mid (2026 Rnd 3rd)
1 Rookie

Leaves us next year to play with
2027 Rnd 3 & 4 & 5
2028 Rnd 1, 2, 3, 4

I feel we can get this Best 23 humming in 2027 after another preseason and a smart coach if we get our picks right.

Fkn hell Round 9 and I'm looking at list changes, and looking at targets.

Yes Rd 9, our reality is miserable we’re in dire need for inspirational and a fresh direction.
Voss and Austin have set the club back at least 3 years if not longer yet.
Over the past 5=years our wins tally has been deplorable and polarizing but we had the comfort of an enviable spine that automatically earned respect.
Now our cupboard is empty. It’s a scary feeling and one finds this very hard to accept .
Both Austin & Voss, no matter how one spin it have been negligent.

We all been Searching for Answers as to why we continue to fade out in the second halves of games & how we ended up with a miserable 1-7,

Well I think we finally have a definite Answer, thanks to some close up Vision of all our Players, step by step as the fade out began last week. I am not sure who did the actual vision, either Chanel 9 or Loyd in one of his TV Segments.

The Vision was appalling. It showed that the Players can barely run. They are cooked. Out of Petrol.

It was all due to Work rate & Fitness. The Game Style that Voss has got them to play is so taxing and so un-realistic that by half time, most of the players are out on their feet. This is not giving an excuse to those players. What the heck were they doing all pre-season?

How can our new recruits say on Social Media that they were so impressed with Carlton's running ability and fitness when they walked into the club?

No Wonder the opposition can score so easily against us.

No Point in Sacking Voss but keeping Austin. Both have to GO. They have done so much damage to our club, they should have been sacked already!

Pitto has a contract until 2027 and Reidy until 2028.
