Sorry Fevolution, I know you love the Fev. We all do, in our own different ways, and we'd be screwed without him. But he stuffs up way too often to be considered for the captaincy.

The captaincy of this great Club is something that needs to be earned over years of high level performance, and years of on and off field behaviour that is a role model for those who look up to the captain, Fevola is miles away from that level.

well come on, lets be honest. Lance's performances of the last few years have been average and nothing special and i would say Fev has performed much better than Lance has, and i would say that Fev has been a very good role model, kids love him, people around the club look to him and listen to what he has to say. So i think what u are saying bout Fev is not quite right.

We will agree to disagree. Lance hasn't been perfect, no doubt, but on and off field has been miles ahead of Fevola. And I'm sorry, Fevola is a crap role model. Listening to my brothers trying to explain to their kids why Fevola is in the news all the time lately demonstrates that painfully clearly.

Given he won the B & F he's been better than average. It's not about the best player necessarily though but the best leader.

If we didn't have Fevola your brother would have to explain to his kids why his beloved Carlton don't exist anymore ... wthout Fev, we wouldn't have any members at all. Fev's worse crime is that he is a larakin - its ok to break the law if you are an AFL player and have your club and the AFL cover it up so as not to bring the game into disrepute, but if you like a few too man beers and draw attention to yourself, then you are hung out to dry...just like our Fev.

You may think he is a moron, but he inspires his peers, inspires supporters and is the best at his position in the AFL. i want a Captain who is passionate about the club (and is able to show that passion), who can lead with his acts on the field and who can help market this club into the next era.

i don't want a robot as Captain ... i want a leader.

name calling is easy ... words like moron just roll of the tongue ... so does pious git ...

Lance....why....coz he will be.....don't need a reason.

Isnt that a dumb reason???

Cos he is an average footballer.. he has the kind of physique we have up in the stands and he is bland.. thats why he should be captain...

Because no REAL reason jumps up at us except some Carlton supporters overrate Lance...

We saw his leadership skills for around 6 weeks last year...

We actually went backwards just as he did...

Then he looked at others for help.

(Like he gave others when they needed it?)

Rotate it... mix it up with senior players and kids.. and forget about the VFL and how things used to be done... its the AFL and were behind on any progressive thinking.

Give it to Murph or Simmo and have some balls. These boys can handle the pressure.

just wanted tyo add something to this role model stuff.

Fev and others who @#$%&! up have been great role models for me when chatting to my son and daughter. they become illustrations of what happens when things go wrong. A role model does not always have to be the perfect one why do you think the church created/invented/has (insert belief system here) the devil?

Sporting teams around the world are littered with players that should be captain because they are quite clearly the best person for the job . Take Warne for instance by far and away the best person to captain Australia but he isn't.

If Fev wants to be a Captain it is a pretty simple solution for him "Stop Being a flower" - Ponting proved you can do it.

Mark Taylor never exactly presented himself in good physical condition but was made captain and was quite a good captain because no else was putting up their hand to say pick me. Mark Taylor also struggled with his weight and when his form slumped went on an extensive fitness campaign which turned his form around.

Lance will captian the side next year because he is the best candidate with have and untill such time that someone else puts their hand up he will remain captain.

Take last years captain, who is widely criticised on this site, he has spent the off season promoting the club , being a role model and working for charity, The bloke who wanted his job was given a better opportunity to show the football world he had come of age and what did he choose to do sulk when he didn't get picked and then go out and get pissed put some guy in a head lock and drag the code , the club and himself through the mud.

Maybe he might learn from this but at 26 you would think he would know by now.

enjoy the captaincy Lance and lead well , it could be argued you dont deserve it. But who else does ????

When I think of the above post - being a bad role model/moron aside (which I don't think he is), when I read the above post about what you think it takes to be a captain, I whole-heartedly agree... and when you, seriously, think of someone who is:

*Inspires peers and supporters
*Passionate about the club
*Leads with acts on the field
*Helps market the club

I can only think of one or two candidates, and Lance isn't one of them...

Fevola, despite being a spanka occaisionally - fits the bill, every one of those catagories... a bit of a boofhead, but there are plenty of them in the AFL - and if an agreement to abstain from alcomohol was included in the captaincy, then give it to him...

Fevola is a gun, and would make a gun leader... Lance would spend too much time writing checks that his ass can't cash... :)

The other players weren't too happy about him being captain. Do we want that to happen again?
