Yep - they are asking the AFL for priority pick assistance as well.
The likes of Greg Swan, Leigh Matthews etc will understand the importance of finishing bottom 2.
Gold Coast will keep trying however they are decimated by injury.

You can also add that if Luenberger is offloaded they believe they will get a band 1 compensation pick.

They can say what they want but the reality is the AFL won't give them any extra picks. Melbourne didn't get one and they were at the bottom for a lot longer. If they want band 1 comp it means Luenberger will have to be on 700k+ per year at his new club. Yeah right!

Adelaide are a chance to get band 1 for Danger but that's about it.

Our good friend David King was practically engineering that scenario today on SEN, even encouraging Brisbane to throw Aish into the deal

Of course he'd be trying to do Carlton plenty of favours .

Melbourne won 10 games over 4 years prior to asking for a PP at end of last season.
In the last 4 years, Brisbane has won 27 games.

They won't be getting a PP.

The issue is the AFL being sneaky with Leuey compo ala Frawley.

Brisbane complaining about not having top 20 picks on their list - they traded pick 5 & 25 away last year. They knowingly drafted Aish even though he was always a flight risk. They have no intention of keeping Leuey - the compo will be too good to ignore and he can't play in same team as Martin.

Luey being worth pick 2 is mind boggling.

Surely not Mikey. But it's the AFL after all and they look after who they like, with their chook lotto decisions.

Free agents should be rated on points to determine the draft order compensation.

I'm not so sure. History indicates that it's unlikely too. Look back over the last 10 years of the PSD. Pick 1 is as follows:

05: T Knobel
06: D McLaren
07: C Ackland
08: D Gourdis
09: L Jurrah
10: J McDonald
11: N Ablett
12: A Hall
13: J Lamb
14: PASS

It's a myth that having an early PSD pick will land you a gun out of contract player. It might happen, but it shouldn't be the expectation.

The biggest asset of the first PSD pick is to be able to use it during negotiations in the trade period and get ourselves a slightly better deal in some cases.

Just thinking about Aish and Carlisle and this quote.

Assuming they are targets, I'm confident it will only be at the right price....

Trigg was with Adelaide, when they had us over a barrel with the Jacobs deal.

He was out of contract, and the PSD was always a threat. We could kick and scream all we liked about #14 or Talia but they were never offering anything other than #33 and nor did they need to.....

SOS was at GWS and did the same to Sydney with Mumford and Lamb. Whilst there were TPP issues at play, he managed to snare Mumford for what became #39, and forced Lamb to the PSD.

Whilst the situation could be reveresed in the case of Henderson and bite us on the arse, I have some faith (probably blind) that despite all the chest beating that will happen over the trade period we would only deal in our favour - if in fact there is significant interest in these guys.

The key is obviously to have them nominate us.

There's the ethical issue of course of gaining the reputation as "fair traders", and having in come back to haunt you when the situations are reversed but did Hawthorn care when they shipped off Hay and Thompson to Nth, or snared Gunston for stuff all.

Did Port care about adequate compensation to Essendon* for Ryder, or Brisbane for Polec, or West Coast for Yeo.

Did Richmond care about Essendon* or us when they threatened PSD for Houli and Grigg, offering nothing in return?

How about Sydney knowing Adelaide were screwed with Tippett, only offered up Jesse White, and then ended up getting him in the PSD when the crap hit the fan? Of course not.....

Only act in the best interest of ourselves...

We'd be absolute idiots to draft anyone with a WADA case over their head, surely.

Lock it in.

Obviously. I still reckon there was more to Peter Gordon's "let them off" rant them just worrying about Crameri.

Anyway, Mark Stevens reckons he's coming Carlton, Jon Ralph '100% Bulldogs', so chances he'll end up staying!

Carlisle is covering his tracks - he now follows all clubs.
Too bad he only followed us overnight - guessing he realised his mistake when he woke up and saw his Twitter mentions.

It is strange that overnight it was just us. When I posted the tweet this morning it was just us.
Now that everyone is onto him and tweeting him - he's decided to cover his tracks.

The next Brock McLean super trade coming up.

Let's offer up pick 3 then change our minds and ask for it back when he gets sentenced by WADA

I think that's what it will transition to, once they're satisfied with how the points system is determined over time.

The 1st round has to be off-limits for any compensation - I would go so far as to say that any compensation should be so minimal that it's a non-factor (eg tops out at 3rd round).

It's pathetic and amateurish that every club in the league is penalised in the first round (ie band 1 compo). This league is so terrified of real competition. May as well be competing in a sandbox.

Then you need to have franchise/option tags to prevent players walking for limited compensation.
