@Bondi.
I’m a firm believer that we have the players and hence why I’m supporting them. With this list, we were good enough to play finals. It was obvious after the Adelaide loss, the players lost belief in their game plan and the proof is which sides we have beaten since then. I’m also a firm believer that we didn’t give them every opportunity to succeed by delisting so many experienced players. Why would you change the medical - high performance person/program but also throw out the baby with the batch water? It’s either one or the other. At the very least, if we were in a so called window, as the club and everyone said, you give the new group and opportunity to work with the group for 12 months. Now the club has come out and admitted its mistake but it’s also using it as an excuse for a failed season. That I don’t take well. I believe our coaching staff have been tunnelled into one way of playing, that they haven’t evolved. Again, the excuse we don’t have the players to play the modern game is a load of bull. I’m sure most of you have played football and understand you can open up the game with one good handball to outside players (fast or slow) as long as the structure and setup is there to take advantage. Pace isn’t the be all and end all. Others sides don’t just have pacy mids, last years premiers are a great example of players just taking the game on and knowing how too. Look at their midfield of McLagauge, Ashcroft, Neil, Dunkley! We are one of the worse sides to run and carry though the middle. All we do is keep playing the same players behind the ball and instruct them to kick it long to a contested pack, either on the wing or I50. Opposition teams all triple team our key forwards for a reason. They know what we will do and are confident in our play to not concern themselves. That’s coaching and at the end of the day, that is on the senior coach. Review my posts, you’ll find I backed Voss all the way until that Adelaide game, even though I wasn’t impressed with our selections.
I will back him in next year, but I fully expect, if he wants to keep his role, he’ll need to change it up, else we won’t beat the top sides and we will have wasted another year. I truly hope I’m wrong, as I like Voss and I’m happy to delay my Europe trip for finals action., but Voss needs to understand he needs to change his structures, setups and set the expectations and standards. He needs to become a tough bastard and stop playing players that need to be dropped. Its too late to do it when the season is over and no one cares.
Hope you are having a good time, as your not missing much here.
