I don't disagree but how can we be sure they aren't following the 'game plan' requested to run by head coach.
I'm with you - we need a clean out but what concerns me is our head coaches' attitude towards change. He comes across as it's my way or the highway.

Name a Premiership Coach who wasn't like that .

Exactly. So, Voss isn’t changing his game style. All other teams will need to adapt.

Voss needs to focus on the broader game plan and man management.
I think he has acknowledged there are elements of the game plan that need work. However, he is firm on the importance of defence and contest, which I think is still very important.

So, IMO he would want assistants who can:

A) get the team to move the ball from backline into the forward line more effectively to enable better shots at goal and, ideally, for less effort expended. Whilst maintaining our strong contest/defense baseline.

B) plan and respond to opposition strategies and tactics that are key for them or aim to thwart us.

And then, he would be looking for players who can help with this too. Given what we already have (strong spine, big bodied midfielders), I assume we need a few more players with speed and skill. Hopefully Jagga can help with that. Ideally someone like NAS coming out of the backline. And then some spark in the forward line would be good. Ideally.

Although, I believe that if we can improve how we move the ball, a few of our ‘poorly skilled’ players will start to look a lot better with a clearer game plan, and kicking more to moving/leading players rather than trying to thread the needle under pressure.

Someone mentioned Hickmott, is he the forwards coach at the Hawks?

As good as Gunston is, I cant believe the amount of space and easy ball he gets. H and Charlie would love that much time and being hit on the chest out in front. It's not like the Hawks currently have a monster forward, Gunston is the main forward and still gets space. No doubt he's very smart and gets good support via blocks but he was gone a few years back.

Our forward entries are putrid, Frankie and Williams are very good at kicking the ball to where the player should be running into, that's about it. Not even Walsh is good at hitting a target in the forward line.

I think it comes down to the hawks having a very mobile forward line and they never stop moving and running and making space. A bit different to our Charlie who stands in the goal square with his arm in the air.

He was the Hawks' contest coach in 2022/23 and has been the forwards coach the last two years. Did it all at the Eagles for a decade under Adam Simpson. If 2026 didn't go to plan for Voss and the board decided to make a move, I reckon he'd be a good candidate.

Loved Hickmott as a player. Absolutely tough as they come. But I'm as surprised as hell he's made a good coach. I recall watching him interviewed during his playing days. Couldn't string two words together and gave the impression he was not only as tough as a brick, but as thick as one as well.

Not sure about thick but a definite double dose of country boy there BV.

Based on his public persona I’d always wondered if Hicky was a first cousin of the Daniher brothers, but then I became good mates with their first cousin (who could easily be a fifth brother) and if he is then it’s not acknowledged by the family…

Apparently our assistants have had a sook about being left in limbo.

Tough titties.

The Coaches Association set the date at August 1st, which is pretty dumb.

I have a ‘basketball skills’ level hatred about the ‘any other job’ trope that gets trotted out… BUT, 4-8 weeks notice is a bit much.

Happy for him he can say he walked of his own accord.

I’m glad he’s gone. Soft cap space.

Very surprised others out of contract haven't been moved on.
