so he doenst have to get an operation at te end of the year?

oh and what was wrong with it was it dislocated, hyperextended?

From the "two weeks" diagnosis being thrown around it sounds like a minor AC joint strain to me. Which means the collar bone has been pushed up at the end that connects to the shoulder, straining the ligaments that hold it in place. Hurts like hell, but it's not a particularily serious injury. The MRI would be to make sure that he didn't partially dislocate the shoulder at the same time. That would be my guess anyway based on the description of the incident.

I thought only Kennedy had a stuffed shoulder.

Dr. Dukester would be surprised if Murph's shoulder is an AC joint - probably just strained ligaments :) .

Further report from a poster on TBV who says that SEN just reported that Murphs season is over. Anybody got further details? :?

Stuffed ligaments. Blues doctor says needs op and will will be 10 - 12 week, I think, affectively ending his season and RS award.

Can he win it in 2007 given he's only played 13 games this year?

How many did Shaw play last year??

Edit...
Can't win it in 2007 (played too many games).

not that he plays for an individual award, but he still can win it in 2007 :( :( .

......the player must be no more than 20 years old by January 1 this year; has played no more than 20 games; and is not suspended by an AFL or state league tribunal.

ohh thats really good (though i would have preferred he played out this year and didnt win it) i always thought the rule was that you have to play less than 10 games in 1 season and be under 21 years of age if he doesnt get injured next year he'd be a certainty to win it. i have an AFL record from 2001 that says that.

Thems the breaks.

Negatives:

It's Murphy.
Rising Star opportunity precarious
Wont be available for the Bombers game.

Positives:

We are not going to play in the finals where we would need him
Rookies can be elevated.
We know where this kid fits in the Carlton team for 2007
Operate now and he'll be ready for another big preseason.
Chances of winning 4 games is further hampered, but gives us a PP
One door closes and another opens.

Who will step up?

ohh well i got excited for no reason here's an extract from the AFL website what i thought was correct was correct:

The winner must be under the age of 21 at January 1 of that year, must not have played more than 10 games to the start of that season and must not have been suspended by the AFL or State League tribunals during the season (as with the Brownlow Medal, players found guilty of certain offences and fined or reprimanded by the Tribunal remain eligible to win the award).

glass 1/2 full point of view:

- I think I read somewhere that an operated on shoulder comes up stronger than the original shoulder.

- He's 18 years old and has been at it full bore for a couple of years now so the rest will freshen him up.

- He'll be right to go for a full pre-season and be cherry ripe for next year when we should be able to string a few wins together.

- His absence will pave the way for another youngster to show us what he's got (Jackson, Smith?)

- Better chance of us finishing low and getting good draft picks.

It has to be a reconstruction if he is out for the season because I can't think of another reason for them to operate. :(

Judd hasn't had one problem since he had both shoulders reconstructed before he debuted so it won't affect Marc's bright future. Budzy beat me to the punch with the comment about giving a Smith or a Jackson a go to see if they're up to it. :)

Extremely disappointing news - but will try and take the glass half full approach and say - that maybe the rest will avoid any OP problems that seem to plague young players. :(

Memo to Robert Copeland - you'll keep.

How strange that I feel that the season has ended for us.

I know logically that it was over after round 2 but hell the Murphy news is bad for us.

Upset that he cannot win the NRS but we all know that the award was his this year and that whoever wins it, also knows it too.

Copeland is a rapid dog who should be shot - YES DP, I am munching on the romance chocolates!

Lets see what the MC does with elevating a rookie in his place.
