Actually Kernahan was not as injury free as everyone thinks - he just played injured. He had his groins repaired after his first year too.

The team's delivery has to get better - although Fev's total this year is pretty good considering. I suppose as the team gets better (whenever that is!!) then he should conceivably kick more goals - although the role of a FF is different with flooding now - and not as relied upon as when Kernahan was playing. But you also have to remember that Kernahan started off as a CHF, before moving into a half/half CHF/FF role when Earl Spalding came - so not only did he play in better teams he also played a completely different type of role.

It will be interesting to see whether anybody kicks 100 goals a season again given the changes to how the game is played.

Long time reader first time writer. Just for those youger Carlton supporters thought I would expand on Jezza's 100 goal season.1970 was my first full time season as a Carlton supporter and Dad took me to nearly every game ( and this season I celebrate my 26th year as a member).
I was always going to be a Blues supporter (Dad had followed them since 1943) but seeing Jezza in action really confirmed the inevitable. He was simply unbelievable and I pity the younger supporters who never got a chance to see him play live. Back to 1970 - his 100th goal came in the last round of the season against Melbourne. He then kicked 15 more in the finals to finish with 115. However he was a long way off the top rung - Hudson kicked 146 and McKenna kicked 143 !
Jezza finished 3rd in the Brownlow that year which was a fantastic effort as traditionally full forwards have never polled well. I think Lockett is the only full-forward with a Brownlow.
The amazing thing about Jezza's 100 is that he really wasn't a full-forward and only played there for one full season only. One can only wonder if he had played his whole career there how many he would have kicked ?

Thanks Ryan2000. I guess I'm lucky that in my 26 years of following the Blues I have seen 7 premierships live at the 'G' (and 3 losing GF's). I try to use this to justify the pain of seeing the current day Blues run around, but it doesn't really work. Once you have been bred on success it is difficult to swallow how bad they are now. However my Dad went from 1947 to 1968 without a Premiership and saw some pretty awful carlton sides in the Fifties. I only hope my Daughter doesn't have to wait 21 years !

The good thing about Fev, is that this week he is a chance to kick 10. Any week he is a chance to kick 10.

All he needs is 10 chances within 55-58 metres.

If he can get a bag this week, there is still a chance to reach that 100 with games against Richmond and Hawthorn. Realistically, he won't reach 100 but you just never know.

Welcome KENNYH. I've only been at the G to see 1 live premiership, and that was unforgettable.

The other amazing thing about Jezza was that he was 5' 11" in the old money and he held down Full Forward and Centre Half Forward for various times in his career. Genuine legend of the game. Welcome KENNYH.
