Agree.

I say again, Thanks, Graham.

I don't really even see the point of Kernahan being on the board. He is not the right type of personality. At the end of the day I would imagine he would side with the coaching staff 99% of the time. If the senior coach says he wants to trade a draft pick for a certain type of player Kernahan would go to the board and defend it with vigor. I see him as a bit of a yes man for the coach. Kernahans role at Carlton should be in developing the young kids not sitting in on board meetings. If you want a 'link' man for the board and coach, a Greg Williams type would be better because he is an angry little man who would question things more rather than just nodding his head to everything the senior coach says.

And that five term thing is ridiculous, imagine we got a president as good as Eddie Mcguire or myself and we had to make him stand down after 10 years.

CG Eddie McChins has used his position in the media to promote the Pies and they have done very well out of it. Now he is in a position that will come under heavy scrutiny over the next few years lets see how he does.

CG do you say stupid things as an attention seeking measure?
That must be the reason, surely?

Kernahan is not the right type of personality? Ok, of course you're correct, he is no good on the board or as the football director.

Greg Williams, while a star is a little too self centred to do the role you suggest.

I'd love to have him as our President.
Has done amazing things with Pies. While we have been stranded those guys have been flying (off-field at least)

The timing of this story intrigues me. Smorgon digging his heels in, contributing the dollars, tax deduction or not who cares we need it. Today Smorgon has upped the ante. Pagan needs to return fire and cannot rely on another Ron Joseph blast. A win on Sunday won’t necessarily do.

Is Sticks in everyones corner? Malouf says that they are “seeking legal advice on the issueâ€

Totally agree. Thanks Graham and Sam for stumping up more cash to help the club.

Credit to him for helping out with the money....you cant knock him based on a tax deduction argument.

Re: Sticks..4 terms is enough , lets get some fresh blood in...

Sticks get used by the powerbrokers to appease the masses at AGM's etc and it probably time we moved on from that....saying all that I'm sure a lot of the members will vote to keep Sticks on...

Elwood - you don't want Sticks involved in any way then?

Look I think Sticks is good value for marketing and some PR stuff but as far as foot dept and board level goes....no.
I dont want him unwelcome at the club buts it a new era and I dont want any relics of the Elliott years having too much of a say anymore...

I didn't hear you complaining too much when it was Collo or Hunter, & Collo was the biggest relic of the Elliot era.

Sticks is his own man who is only there for the good of the club, we can't positively say that about the other board members.

To me sticks is Carlton. He is the heart and soul of the club. He is more passionate about Carlton than anyone at the club. I cant see why anyone in their right mind would want him off the board.

If he gets ousted against his will then the club has lost me .....and about thirty of my friends and family.

Collo and Hunter took very clear stands against Elliott. Sticks never did.

My problem with Kernahan as a board member or as a key member of the footy department is that he just doesn't strike me as someone who's innovative and visionary.

I think he can play an emotional figurehead role for us in much the same way that Ted Whitten did for the Dogs and John Nicholls has at times for us but he doen't need to be on the board or in the footy department to do that.

I want people on the board who are both highly competent and visionary. I don't think he fulfills those criteria.

What Sticks can do is express his love for the club and inspire greater commitment from the players. Why don't we slot him into that role on a more fixed basis?

We could even get him a furry suit if he's that way inclined.

I think Sticks sometimes gets conflicted between his loyalty to his club and his faith in his friends.

Guess you want a new board then? Sticks is the only one capable of fitting that criteria out of what we have.

Yep, Collo took a real stand, years and years after the fact and after he caused his own share of damage during Jacks presidency. Took Hunter about 8 years also.

Every person on the board plays a different role, & sticks fits the role of liasing between the playing side and admin side perfectly.

Who do you think a player could turn to if they had any difficult questions to ask of the club?

Maybe Stick should be more involved in the on field issue. He seems to do wonders when give inspirational speakers before games.

If you believe what you read in the papers the players seemed inspired by the great sticks.

It would be good if he could do it every week.

couldn't care less if he tips in money or not (although the cynic in me says that it worked in garnering support)

but what is he doing as president - not how much money, not how many hours, the what.

Is the brand improving?

Are we a vibrant club?

Do we seem to all be pulling together?

Are we using the media to our advantage?

and so on. In my mind - the whole board fails in the answers to these questions. I seriously hope a fair dinkum powerful group emerges soon to take hold pof this club or that Smorgon and the board show me for what I am

an opinionated nobody on an internet forum - either would do me
