7Dom, Do you actually think we are good enough to tank?

I'll give you an example of tanking. Fev hurt his finger 3 weeks ago which will obviously need some surgery. Clubs that want to tank would have the surgery performed immediately and write him off for the season. We are playing him.

Tanking is what Collingwood did last year.

I can't see anything in his post that claims that he believes we are tanking!

Just a well reasoned line of questioning I think and I'm looking forward to people trying to answer them. :)

You are lazy. Answer them yourself.

I'm not advocating tanking why would I need to answer them?

Actually the post is about executing tanking not advocating it. Want to have a crack? Others have and none of them are AFL coaches .... I think?

Indeed.

What were the "tankers who were there(and why did they go?)thinking?

- Want the young guys to play well

- Want the opposition to convert their chances in front of goal

- Want our older guys to miss in front of goal

- If scores are tight and it looks like we might win, pray that Carlton lose by any means possible.

i reckon that many of our more vocal proponents of the "tank" would also have deep down wanted the win.

i reckon that many of our more vocal 'win at all costs' brigade would also deep down know that its actually better to lose.

Your right but it's addressed to the proponents ( see title ) which I am not one.

I was convinced mid-season that the selection of some 'VFL' type players was evidence of tanking. It just seemed as though Teague, Prendergast and Sporn were getting games but were placed on opponents where it just was never going to work. Unluckily for Teague, that's the nature of the limitation of his AFL career - not tall enough for the larger players, not fast enough for the mid forwards. It just seemed that Bannister was not getting a game back then, that Russell wasn't, that Kennedy wasn't despite the loss of Fish and Waite, and that we were deliberately playing a struggling team when we had some building blocks (albeit youthful and inexperienced) that could have had an impact.

It seems as the season has progressed that this was just evidence of Pagan's development ethos. Or is it?

Hard to tell if its tanking or just the normal overconservative stupidity of our MC....we must have been tanking when we had Merrington and Hotton rucking back in the old days and the smallest list in terms of height I have ever seen.....
