There is only one player who has the credentials to be the next captain, and that's Lance.

He is smart, has shown over the last couple of years that he has got his act together, and is Carlton through and through. My old man, who's been watching Carlton since the 1930s, reckons he marshalls players on the field better than anyone he has seen since Nicholls.

The young guys are just that, young. Too young and still trying to establish a career to worry about captaincy. Remember, when Kernahan was appointed, he'd played 4 years with Glenelg already, and a year at Carlton.

The only other possibilities are Stevens, whose stocks re Captaincy have fallen this year, and Fev. Fev has to prove for the next couple of years that he can be responsible enough to take on such a job...he doesn't get it for 6 months of good behaviour (and he was borderline on imploding on Sunday, was lucky not to be dragged a second time).

IMHO, Lance for captain for the next 2 or 3 years, to be followed by a 10 year captain, Murphy, who has Captain written all over him (or Gibbs??).

If a team with balls and vision, Whitnall wouldn't be in the squad this year, and shouldn't be there next year.

No way Lance for captain.

I think Lance has either found out that Kouta is staying or has been told he wont be captain and I reckon it happened about 6 -7 weeks ago around about the same time as his form dropped off and around about the same time Fev really sarted to show leadership .

Fevola inspires with some of the ludicrously impossible shit he pulls off on the field.
Fevola shows passion and isn't afraid to throw his weight around.
Fevola is prepared to defend the club in the media.
Fevola has genuine charisma and never gives the standard AFL "Yeah, nah" response to questions.
Fevola is king of the kids, they adore him.

FEVOLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

Lance and Kouta are Boxer from Animal Farm...(for BB) 8)

Fev is playing with a touch of groin trouble a touch of knee trouble.. and a touch of broken handitis... and he is starring in a pretty shit side.
He would have kicked 100 if Murph was still in feeding him.
Gibbs and Murph to Fev ???

GOLD!!!

The rigours of AFL footy are abit much for Lances body.

Obviously Pagan told him so we can blame Pagan for his form drop off.

Completely agree

All new draftees would admire a captain who can bench-press them when they arrive

You said that not me - 10 weeks ago Lance was the obvious choice for captain to replace Kouta now he is not that Mantle clearly belongs to Fev much to my surprise because I didn't think he would ever mature the way he has this year .

Lances drive and commitment seems to have dropped off in recent weeks maybe he came to the realisation that he wont ever be a part of a flag winning team and wont ever be captain - maybe he is injured - maybe Pagan did say something to him I dont know but what ever it is there is a marked difference in his early season form to now and his recent form is not deserving of the captains position where Fevs is . I wouldn't offer it to Fev myself until he showed he can sustain his commitment for more that one season

I don't think Lance should be captain but there was talk a few weeks ago that he would not start in a game due to injury. He ended up playing but has had significant bandages applied to one of his knees for several weeks now.

An obvious choice is not necessarily a good choice.

Just an obvious one.

I agree but we are thin on the ground in this department

So why not go for a choice that isn't obvious?

We've plenty more of them.
