Can anyone fill in the missing pieces here? This just makes no sense.

Either this report is crap, and the club has given him a reasonable offer and he is holding out for more.

OR

The club is seriously offering him such a low deal. If so, I want to know what the f*ck the thought process of the board is here.

Bottom line is, and I think reading everyone's responses here confirms this, Thornton is worth a lot more than what is on offer so WTF?

Were probably a chance to get pick 6 if we trade T Bird and pick 1 for it...

Do they want to get rid of him for some reason. I do not know but if that offer is correct it sure looks like it.

I've heard of tanking for picks in the draft, but tanking the Wizard Cup?

This is getting ridiculous!

I am going to remain positive (fingers crossed).

It has too be obvious that we just need to resign him.

I doubt a brlliant offer will come through.

It just doesn't make sense.

Does he actually want too go, or is it solely the money?

Really confused and diasappointed if this is the case, but yes the media do need something to write about, and this is there for them.

Also put on you ruby slippers on, tap the heel 3 times and say there's no player like Thornton, there's no player like Thornton.

After I spat the dumby on Blueview someone brought this artilcle to my attention, read down to the bottom.

Meanwhile, Carlton is confident of retaining its required players, including Brad Fisher and Bret Thornton, who are both out of contract.

Blues general manager of football operations Grant Williams said he expected the pair, and another 10 uncontracted players, to agree to terms in the near future.

Malouf is a Hawks man isn't he? Maybe one parting gift before he moves on? :o

I cannot believe the $150K base. It in itself is lower than the average salary of an AFL player and Thornton is close to our most important (read, not best) player on the whole list.

Time for another email campaign, this is disgusting!

I have just read the article.

I have been told my someone who I trust that Hawthron have offered 325k a season for 3 years. Now that may include a bit of marketing money or something but I dont know.

But the total is 325k.

Carlton have offered 260k. Not sure if that includes some marketing money either.

If we were to offer 300k and 3 years he would agree with that... as far as I have been told.

Now the question is really is he worth that?

To me he is to our club. Unless Hawthorn have pick 6 on the table then its not worth it in a trade.

Hawthorn will offer 24 and a fringe player. We all know that. Its not worth taking an okay player and an okay pick.

Offer him fair price and he will sign with us.

Cap is 450k up next year and 500 the following.

300k over 3 years is more like 250 in todays money with the cap going up so much.

We already have descent people in there. In fact many of us think that they couldn't descend any further.
