Great Post BNZ. Stright from the heart. It's nice to hear from people with these sort of feelings for the club in times like these. Those who feel like you feel stronger and can associate with your situation...and I'm one of them.
Don't let it get to you though. We're all on the same side, we just express it differently, because we see it differently, because our lives and experiences are all different. Yet we are all on the same side when it comes to the team we barrack for.
Balance is necessary.
Rational thoughts are necessary.
All sides debated is necessary.
It takes all types to make the world. As my dad always said when I called him a fool for barracking for Geelong, he would respond with " if there were no fools, there would be no smart people, we'd all be the same, and life would become boring".
I have over the year been subjected to the 'rose cloured glasses' thing, but you know, in my heart, and with the little things I know, I'm right.
Are we at the lowest point in our history? Yep...well in my lifetime anyway.
Will we come back? Yes, and as big as before, but in a socialist system.
There's only positives ahead, but I do not doubt there will be a bumpy ride over the next few months, and maybe for another 2 years...and that should do it. But what you have to understand is realistically in the big scheme of things, 5-7 years is only a moment in time.
Can we sink further than now? Yes!
Will it happen? No!
The doomsdayers are important, because they create a sense of urgency. Have they ever been right about their predictions regarding the club, not our position of the ladder? No!
We're still alive
We're still Melbourne based
We are bigger than most other clubs despite our darkest period since 2002
We have a brand, and it's easy to turn that around from tarnished, not broken.
We have many more things that put us in a position of strength for a better future than most people realise, but we are still on the bottom of the heap for now.
Some people see things blacker than others. If you haven't learned to cope with it after all these years, then you've got thin skin. All in good time Grasshopper I say. Nothing will change overmight...unless somehow we have an injection of about $10-$15M into the club today. That's not much money really, but when you haven't got it in the hand when you want it, it seems along way away.
As Waitey put it:
Quote:
We are going to crawl out from this mess and up the ladder and it is going to be the best feeling!! I am confident we can sort the stuff out with the board and the coach, we just have to all be united together.....
...........and that's life when you're down....we have to crwal through this before the momentum builds...and the board will be sorted...just ask Synbad, that's where he gets his hope from, and the coach will get sorted....and that's the only problem most positive posters have....but I tell you what in the meantime, you can cry and shout, brag aor bag, hate or love, what we're going through is better for the club in the long run and change is the one thing you can rely on.
I played senior footy when I was 15 in Hawthorn. Three years, Three wooden spoons, Three Wins....but times change... Ten years later I'm playing in a dynasty... 3 years undefeated, 3 Flags...and that's life when you've got a good bunch of kids together growing up...individuals move on but the club lives on.
Have a look at the 30 kids we will have on our list after draft day...and there's your depth, and talent and future.
The changes that need to happen will happen...because they need to...and everyone can see the potential of the kids and the attraction they will create from $M sponsors and supporters...
Yesterday we couldn't get a ticket together to fight Elliot...Today, they are all fighting for the glory days they can take advantage of in a year or two.
Remember, every poster has a right to say what they feel. It's up you to find the holes in their argument, and express them succinctly, or you become just a play thing. The word is CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
