i dont contribute...im the first to admit it. but i dont go around thread to thread telling people that my word is what we should live by....infact i rarely post on matters that i know nothing about....i ask questions and have fun listening to the many different and far-fetched draft scenarios.
i also dont go around telling people they are flat out wrong because they have a different opinion....im i supporter...thats what i am. im here because the majority of people on here are as passionate as me and most of us have a good relationship.
synbad on the other hand does attacks people and tells them they are wrong...because apparently he is always right...

Look mate it's great that you love the club so much (not aimed at you Shag). I think we all do. But too many people are putting blind faith in the club. Oh it will be alright, we will get through this, lets stick together, etc. The club is in shambles and i think some people need to realise just how bad it is. Some of you abuse Synbad for posting what he does. I for one agree with him 100% (in theory). If you have spoken to a guy like Fitzy you will know how bad the club really is.

You say oh you are so negative, just look at the bright side. As long as the club is headed the way it is there is no bright side. It pains me to say that but its true. Players are jumping ship, membership is falling and the media is having a field day on us. If you all just say it will be OK then nothing will be done. You have to make yourself heard. This club needs change and needs it now. The sooner the change happens the sooner we can all get back to being positive.

Looking at the medium term, I am positive about Carlton, not because of how it is right now, but because of two things :

1. Our History

2. A belief in the future.

Having said this, I am fully expecting more troubles before things get batter.

Looking at the short to medium term, I am negative about :

1. what I believe to be a very poor board.

2. A coach whose style is damaging our club.

and a coach that for a number of reasons should be replaced.

They might not have arrived at their negative perceptions in the same way that I have, but people venting their negative sentiments here probably feel just like I do

When Synbad said that he was more concerned about the process that led to Thornton quitting rather than him actually wanting to be traded, I fully agree.

There is a rot setting into this club and it needs to be taken out before if goes too deep.

I know where to get cheap pairs of rose coloured glasses if a lot of you have worn out yours.

WAKE UP!

If things are shit, then they are shit, no use sticking your head in the sand and hoping for better days - they ain't gonna come.

Two wooden spoons in a row - let's just shut up and maintain the status quo because obviously those in charge know what they're doing.

Why do you think Thornton wants out? It's because the place stinks!

What makes you think they wont?

The answer to both questions is the same...it's [whoever you're asking]'s opinion.

Not your fault at all mate. I like your post in many ways. I am very anti-board and unsure about Pagan (probably rather get rid of him if we have a suitable replacement - need a fresh start). However, some of the hysteria and negativity is over the top. You read the boards and think Pagan is the devil and Smorgon the plague.

But what starts to really annoy me is that people can not argue without using PA's and abuse. Just smells too much of Richmond in their worst days. The club is in big trouble and the brand is higly damaged, we are the butt of every joke in the media.- and now we are starting to loose young players.
This can very easily become irreversable and jorpadise the clubs future. We do not need internal implosion.

I just hope something positive is happening behind the scene and we can find a strong leader that can restore "hope" around the club. I think that is what has happened - people have lost hope. No matter how much you can argue for another bottom finish to rebuild the list, I don't think we can survive it (at least with the current lack of leadership). The club has to win a few games next year and at least achieve pso 12/13 next year or I really fear for the future.

In the mean time it would be nice if people could treat each other with a little more respect... please.

All you've done is illustrate the way your mind works. That doesn't mean everyone elses mind has to work the same way as yours. If someone wants to be positive let them. If someone such as yourself wants to be negative then go right ahead...it's your life, live it the way you want to.

Everyone should just stop worrying about what other people are thinking and just try and live a little.

No it's not, and the mod's won't dislike the thread intentions or author, more the fact that some members of EITHER side seem capable of having their opinions without resorting to ridiculous personal comments.
mikkey wrote:

Amen.

BOTH sides of this argument must understand that there will always be those who disagree with their points.

BOTH sides of this argument will please learn to vocalise their point of view without resorting to the ridiculous personal comments, overuse of swearing, and laughable displays of over-the-top posturing.

The new guidelines are still a work in progress, but I fail to see why it needs to be explained to you again and again how to behave.

Great Post BNZ. Stright from the heart. It's nice to hear from people with these sort of feelings for the club in times like these. Those who feel like you feel stronger and can associate with your situation...and I'm one of them.

Don't let it get to you though. We're all on the same side, we just express it differently, because we see it differently, because our lives and experiences are all different. Yet we are all on the same side when it comes to the team we barrack for.

Balance is necessary.
Rational thoughts are necessary.
All sides debated is necessary.

It takes all types to make the world. As my dad always said when I called him a fool for barracking for Geelong, he would respond with " if there were no fools, there would be no smart people, we'd all be the same, and life would become boring".

I have over the year been subjected to the 'rose cloured glasses' thing, but you know, in my heart, and with the little things I know, I'm right.

Are we at the lowest point in our history? Yep...well in my lifetime anyway.

Will we come back? Yes, and as big as before, but in a socialist system.

There's only positives ahead, but I do not doubt there will be a bumpy ride over the next few months, and maybe for another 2 years...and that should do it. But what you have to understand is realistically in the big scheme of things, 5-7 years is only a moment in time.

Can we sink further than now? Yes!
Will it happen? No!

The doomsdayers are important, because they create a sense of urgency. Have they ever been right about their predictions regarding the club, not our position of the ladder? No!

We're still alive
We're still Melbourne based
We are bigger than most other clubs despite our darkest period since 2002
We have a brand, and it's easy to turn that around from tarnished, not broken.
We have many more things that put us in a position of strength for a better future than most people realise, but we are still on the bottom of the heap for now.

Some people see things blacker than others. If you haven't learned to cope with it after all these years, then you've got thin skin. All in good time Grasshopper I say. Nothing will change overmight...unless somehow we have an injection of about $10-$15M into the club today. That's not much money really, but when you haven't got it in the hand when you want it, it seems along way away.

As Waitey put it:

Quote:
We are going to crawl out from this mess and up the ladder and it is going to be the best feeling!! I am confident we can sort the stuff out with the board and the coach, we just have to all be united together.....
...........and that's life when you're down....we have to crwal through this before the momentum builds...and the board will be sorted...just ask Synbad, that's where he gets his hope from, and the coach will get sorted....and that's the only problem most positive posters have....but I tell you what in the meantime, you can cry and shout, brag aor bag, hate or love, what we're going through is better for the club in the long run and change is the one thing you can rely on.

I played senior footy when I was 15 in Hawthorn. Three years, Three wooden spoons, Three Wins....but times change... Ten years later I'm playing in a dynasty... 3 years undefeated, 3 Flags...and that's life when you've got a good bunch of kids together growing up...individuals move on but the club lives on.

Have a look at the 30 kids we will have on our list after draft day...and there's your depth, and talent and future.

The changes that need to happen will happen...because they need to...and everyone can see the potential of the kids and the attraction they will create from $M sponsors and supporters...

Yesterday we couldn't get a ticket together to fight Elliot...Today, they are all fighting for the glory days they can take advantage of in a year or two.

Remember, every poster has a right to say what they feel. It's up you to find the holes in their argument, and express them succinctly, or you become just a play thing. The word is CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.

This thread illustrates the two types, one who would go la la la la all will be well and other who want to do something about it. Do not underestimate your ability to make a difference. We can educate those who are not privy to the happenings get them to see how much damage the wimp of a president and the coach are causing thus ensuring that they do not fall to the media spin at the AGM. I am with Synbad and co who want to rally for the cause to vote against the board, the president, and get the elected members to sack the coach.
