I'm 100% with Deano on his ideas. Great minds, big fella!

Hey Melvey - you really think an art director will hang shit on his own work?! 8)
I work a lot with art directors - and there's always been a lot of back patting. Especially on themselves!

Personally, I'd like to see part of the video footage for members only - would be a great incentive for long-distance members who can't get to regular games thus get bugger all personal value (apart from the 'doing my bit for the club' factor) from their memberships.

If the club isn't sure what I mean they should check out http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/fanzone/fan_sign_in.html. Tottenham Hotspur have Fanzone and Spurs Lodge, both of which can only be accessed by club members or internet subscribers. There's wallpaper and screensaver downloads, exclusive interviews, voting for fans player of the year, video footage etc etc. If Carlton could introduce this and have members access it and offer special "internet only" memberships it would be a huge boost for the club IMO, especially given the interest in Ireland re: Setanta and Aisake.

From an interstate members point of view, access to a special area of the site as part of the membership package would add immense value to the interstate/long-distance membership.

I've rambled on a bit now... sorry

Great idea Deano - living in Darwin this would be giving me some value for my membership. :-D

Beat me to it blue insider... artists may be critical of their pieces, but never have I heard an art director knock his/her own work...

May sound a lil lamo, but how about a virtual tour of MC Labour Park, incl. the changerooms *minus players  *, social club *minus pokies :P *, the ground itself... for those that have never made it to the ground or seen a match there before... and how about coaches box snippets *not too much to give our game plan away *awaits jokes*, posted in the day or two after each match...

Just some ideas is all...

Great ideas by the club!

1 -I think videos should be for Members only. I'm interstate, and don't get to any games/training,a nd would love for the club to post things that only members can access. Also would encourage people to take up membership, even BLUE MEMBERSHIP for the sake of $66.

2 -I think they should have a link to player profiles - about 20 questions about each player outside of footy. Like a FanFile sort of thing.

3 - They should have sections - such as a training section, a game day section and a coaches section. Each section providing information and photos of games and training, even video of training and game highlights available to all members. The coaches section could have a weekly update, even if only a paragraph, of training/games and how we are going in general.

Last week I got a preview of what the new CFC website will look like when launched next year in February.

IMO it is a major improvement on the current site, better navigation, less space for Bigpond ads, less cluttered etc. Great all round, I did not have many suggestions for improvement. The other good news is that the club will have the ability to post news instantly. This should mean that the official site becomes a lot more useful as a place to stop to get the latest news on the club. Currently if a news item is entered the system only refreshes a few times a day, so it may take up to 3 hours from the time the club enter the news item to it actually appearing 'live' on the website.

One of the best new features though will be the ability for the club to post video clips on the site. Initially they will pop up in your default media player but later next year they will be able to be played 'inline' on the webpages themselves ala YouTube.

The club is planning to make full use of this facility and will aim to post a new video every day onto the site.

The club already has plans for some of the content it may provide but I though it would be good if we could get some ideas from the good people of TC. Hopefully there might be some creative ideas that are rated PG and the club might be able to use.

I will let the club know about the ideas in this thread.

Thanks for that Jarusa ... good news!

I think having some free video content is a good marketing tool for the Club, and would also promote the idea of people joining in some paid-up capacity (e.g online member or even free for CFC members) to receive more content.

Some great ideas there, the Virtual Tour would be fantastic for those who have never been to MC Labour Park.

I'd like to see stuff that I can't get anywhere else. While updating the news stories sooner will be great for supporters who don't visit fan forums, if I want to know that Adam Bentick has been given number 7 TC is still the best place to find it. That will be the case regardless of whether the club can update its news stories more often.

I get a weekly E-Mail from the club, but there's nothing in it I haven't already seen or don't already know.

Most of the ideas raised here have been great so far.

Providing a special membership for our Irish friends to keep up to date, not only with the boys but also with the club they're playing for, would be a great initiative.

Great to read about this.

Did anyone at the Club talk about whether certain 'trusted non-employees' would be in a position to put in this information? I'd floated the idea to allow a couple of people, known as 'J' or 'M' the ability to access the site to put up teams straight away, given there is only 1 person at the Club who has to do the official lodgments. If we could share the workload then it may happen quicker.

Also, was there any talk of a Bullants stat site? I think given how many younger players we have we need to know who is playing well, who gets the ball, who is getting game time.

More in depth analysis, stats etc, would be good from the bullants games. As an interstater i'm always interested to read about the young players in the vfl team, coz i can't watch it live.

I don't suppose there is a market for a stand alone bullants website, or is there one which i just haven't been able to find yet?

Re the non Broadband issue, it may be worth asking if they could
keep the Videos to a reasonable size.
There are still quite a few who dont have Broadband, and a smallish
Videos will load in 5 to 10 minutes.
Takes a bit of patience.

On another note.
Anyone who wants to get and save, and play the Youtube videos on
their PC.
They are in .FLV mode. This is a Flash type mode.
They are in your internet cache on the computer, when you have
played them.
If you search for *.flv, you will find them in the cache.
There are Flv players available on the web.

..

There is a Bullants website via the footballvic website -

http://bullants.footballvic.com.au/

The same site links to all the VFL clubs and many other leagues around the state. You can get some stats from last year, news items and sign up for the "Ants Pants" email newsletter if you want.

Hope you like the site.

Thanks Ianh, will certainly be visiting it a bit. Is it pretty good at updating stats, e.g. are stats from weekend games on by at least monday morning. Thats where i believe the carlton site can, and it sounds as though it is, improve.

You don't get a lot of stats but you do get them fairly quickly, including best 6 in order and goalkickers, usually by the end of game day.

I'm excited!!! I hate nothing more than being bored on the internet, logging onto Carlton FC and I've already read every article and watched every video involving Carlton that Bigpond offers... I also think with these new developments the site will attract many more YOUNG supporters. My younger brother who goes for the 'wobbles sits and watches CTV all day and gets very into it all, I know if Carlton had something similar all the little blues would be doing the same thing.

I reckon it's a great idea to have streaming/buffered video available - Flash is fine for previewing but it would be nice for watermarked H.264 to be available (HD Quicktime basically) as a download. I say watermarked because that's the only way that you could cover your a$$es for copyright purposes.

For those with dial-up, sorry, but if you're wasting your time waiting for buffering you have too much time on your hands. Get high-speed or face facts, video and dial-up don't mix.
