I'm not sure a sporting museum would be an ideal fit in the Carlton Football Club complex. The only reason to run a sporting museum at the club would be to generate profit for the club.

That is a very limited point of view. The idea of a museum is to display our proud heritage thus enhancing the Carlton brand. The monetary benefits are captured in other ways such as increased purchase of membership, merchandise, attendance at club events etc.

jimmae bought up the idea of a sporting museum for the club rather than a carlton museum. If you read the conversation correctly my point was that a general sporting museum would not be considered by the club unless it was commercially viable. A carlton themed museum on the other hand would be considered for the reasons already mentioned.

Only way to make it a relevant 'Sporting Museum' to Carlton would be to incorporate the Cricket Club, the Bowls Club and the Football Club - each having had a long-term affiliation with one another. There's some fantastic history in there, even though much of the early Bowling Club records and memorabilia was destroyed by fire about 30 years ago.

Was at the club again this morning and all the memorabilia was being installed in the cabinet. Looks fantastic. If you want to check it out wander on down to Visy Park.

Very true, but I think the purpose of the display is to generate interest in people coming down to the club, although they might need something other than a cafe to keep them there.

The cafe is a good idea but from memory it can only be acessed from inside the facility - if thats the case, I wonder if they ever thought of having part of it feed out into PP parkland so at least the cafe is accessible any day of the week? So many people go around the PP track, some may like the idea of going for a stroll stiopping in there for a coffee / snack etc?

Looking at the display case, it may need to be extended to get a few more people to visit there to view it -BUT, its a start which is a positive.

First impression is that it looks fantastic, I cant wait until Friday to have a close-up look, to quote a line from the Carlton website regarding this display:

Accordingly, the Carlton Football Club and the Spirit of Carlton are to be congratulated.”

I concur  :thanks:

Great to see - really proud to see the Club doing this (although Im sure it's down to a handful of quality Carlton people pushing for it).

When is the SOC taking over the Blueseum?

Had a look at this tonight after the praccy game, it looks fantastic and it seemed to be well received by those around who were looking at the display. The footage was a bit surreal, it was a flashback to when Carlton was King

Agree the display was wonderful to look at.

Well done Spirit of Carlton and the club for contributing to it also.

Thanks guys, the Spirit of Carlton is very proud of this. It is just one example of where your money goes when you get a Spirit of Carlton membership.

From: http://spiritofcarlton.com/blog/2011/03 ... completed/

Wonderful news today as the new display case in the Visy Park foyer is now complete. The final touches were made this morning in time for the practice match against the Crows. Many hundreds of people got to see the display cabinet today and based on seeing their reactions the display seemed to be very well appreciated. If you saw the cabinet today please leave a message in our comments section to tell us what you think.

For those Blues supporters not able to make it into Visy Park we have produced a video to show you what the display cabinet contains. The contents of the cabinet will change from time to time, at the moment the display is of memorabilia from the 1981 and 1982 premierships.

Well done to all   I hope to have a look next week.

I have a similar 'Back to Back Attack' frame but mine doesn't have all the player signatures, only the Mike Fitzpatrick, Parko and the B&F players for those years.
