Pro: Some of our players believe in the 'No Passengers' slogan.

Con: Possibly the filth's fitness over ours.

Hendo, Bower, Kreuzer, Hoops, Army, (McLean?) to come back in
Watson will hardly have harder match this year
In patches we took it up to the best
Drafted Curnow

Con
While the Pies blocked and protected each other so that a 2m handball was to a guy in space, we did none, so that a 2 or 5m handball was to a guy who got crunched
We will never be a serious contender with Scotland, Carrazzo, Thornton in the side

Pros
- Didn't get flogged
- JEFF GARLETT. You @#$%&! star. If he'd kicked that goal where he evaded two Filth players along the boundary line it would be GOTY.
- Robbo. Impressed with him tonight. A few fumbles, but overall he's gotten a LOT better this year.
- Yarran. Did really well at hb.
- Watson. Look, the guy is playing his second game against the reigning premiers. He was hardly the worst.
- We need to run and carry more.
- Didak is still soft.

Cons
- Should have gotten closer
- Betts. Did bugger all...but this is also a pro as it means Garlett can run riot.
- Simpson - set shots have been woeful
- Judd's set shot kicking (I know, he can't do everything)
- Some shithouse umpiring decisions. Under no illusions it cost us the game, but giving Duigan TWO deliberates when that rule is almost never paid is ridiculous. Don't get me started on the 3 free kicks against us deep in our fwd 50 in the third quarter or that call against Russell.
- We stuff it up when we slow it down.
- Their loose man picked most of our entries off in the second half
- Filth supporters are still feral dumb cauliflower but now with added arrogance.

8 clangers tonight.... :banghead:

It wasn't just 'clangers', it was absolutely lethal clangers. He killed us. I can cop mistakes like that from a guy in his 3rd game, but not repeated ones from a senior player.

2. Hammer forward – don’t mind him in the ruck, but he simply fails to make an impact in too many marking contests. If he’s not gonna catch it, he must bring it to ground, but tonight when we used Hammer as our go to inside 50 they just whisked it out. Need Hendo and Kreuz back so badly.

Disagree with this point. Hammer was fine, the distinct lack of crumbers around him was not. Should have had two goals to his name.

Carrazzo should have been subbed, not Walker. Walker should have been moved in to the middle or on to the wing.

We will never be a serious contender with Carrazzo, period.

Cons

Poor decision making will kill you every time -- Scotland, Robinson, Betts, Russell.

Kid can be excused - Watson

Russell - lift your game, 3 poor ones in a row now
Simpson - Another poor one, maybe Army wants your spot, need to find dash
Mitch - Poor decision, when 60 meters out, Kick to top of Goal square
Laidler - Thanks, but its time for Bower to return now
Betts - Time to have a rest in seconds, no pressure, no disposals, dropped marks again.
Hampson - Will be luck to keep spot, if Irish or Kruezer were fit your wouldnt get a game
Scotland - Poor decisions, Should have kicked more quickly under pressure. Time for Lucas to take your spot
Thornton - Nice start, but all at Sea in defence - We need Henderson to take our spot
Waite - Needs to stay inside 50. Stop punching people

Well there you have it

Pros
Warnock & Yarran belong in firsts
Andrew Collins & Walker switch - Better than having either one, worked well.
Curnow

How to fix it. Model from what Collingwood does. You must run and carry, players need to spread, need taller options, forward and back. Reduce skill errors. Need more pace - Lucas must play. Back kids, be bold and cut Scotland (Pies cut Obree etc.)

Forwards
2 Talls - Waite, Henderson (Thornton)
2 Medium - Walker, Robinson
2 Small - Garlett, Betts

Centre - Simpson, Gibbs, Russell

Backs
2 Talls Watson, Jamison
2 Mediums - Bower (Laidler), Lucas (Scotland)
2 Small - Yarran, Armfield (Carrazo)

Mid-Field
Warnock, Judd, Murphy

Bench
Kruezer/ Hampson, Curnow/ McLean, Duigan, Collins (S)

Pros:

Judd - leads by example. Pity we don't have the quality to follow his lead
Gartlett - outstanding. Talk about value for money. He's probably on around 100k - & to think, Betts would be earning 3x as much...
Watson - would've learnt so much tonight
Jamieson - solid game
Warnock - thought he battled hard

Cons:

Carrazzo - enough is enough, sometimes, coaches place their faith in particular players, & eventually the player & coach disappear together - Ratten better be REAL careful.
Betts - play him in the Bullants for a month - MINIMUM. And then, then let's see if he really wants to be an AFL footballer
Simpson - reasonable first quarter. But ordinary after that. For a 26yo who's been in the system for 8 years, & doesn't draw a tag EVER, he's actually turning into a pretty ordinary player.
Scotland - drop him , and bring in Lucas
Hampson - big blokes take time. But F%ck, I'm running out of patience with this bloke.
Collins - he's had 3 practice games with Bullants & played well apparently, to come on as a sub & dish up that sh*t is disgraceful. Looking like Tiges are going do extremely well out of the Grigg-Collins trade
Thornton - there was a reason why you didn't play him last year Ratten , what's changed??? Simon White should be playing in this team ahead of Thronton all day, every day. Another disgraceful match committe decision.
Murphy - how long are we gonna read stories about Murphy, Gibbs & co ready to take the next step & help Judd return our club to fomer glory. Judd'll be finished in 2 years if murphy & co don't start turning up when it counts. Starting to develop a reputation as a flat track Bully.
Could go on with half a dozen other players, but that'll do.

Hammer was our deep target. He crashed the packs and brought it down along with a few of them but with betts out of whack we had noone to take advantage.

Watson is inexperienced and did the best he could. He looks like he will be a fine player but there is no denying having him out there tonight cost us goals.

Judd was great and again showed why he is our best player. Magpie fans boooing him soon stopped when they realised they were embarrassing themselves.

Betts and Walker were terrible. The pies made sure both were shutdown.

Collingwood sensed blood in the second and applied the press in all its errr glory. We need that in our arsenal. You could really sense them going for the throat.

Who could we have played instead who would not have cost us goals against Dawes/Cloke/Brown?

Agree.

We are on the right track. Bring on next week.

Cons:
Team hasn't played together enough to know where each bloke is going to run to. A few times the more experienced blokes kicked or handballed into a dangerous spot but the inexperienced guys didn't run there. This will come in time.

We dont have any options really. I am not saying he shouldnt have played but having someone so inexperienced on thos guys cost us goals.

It will be a good lesson for him. Malthouse put all his defenders through similar situations over the years. Leaving Brown and Obrien on Fev on a couple of occasions cost them games and drove their fans nuts but in the end it paid off.

Agree. Will be one of his hardest 2 or 3 games for the year.

I agree with all of this Lucablue, except your comment on Collins. A first game for a new Club in front of 80,000 as a Sub, is not fair to write him off. Collins is a good user of the ball from what I have seen and must be given games. Its high time the MC moved on the above players to the Bullants and the MC blooded some new players like Cachia, Kerr - anyone.
We need Kruezer, Henderson, White, Lucas, Maclean all fit and firing now.

Pros

Didn't get flogged, although it was over at half time.

Played the way we needed to for 1.5 quarters...............only 2.5 to go !!

Garlett our only A grade forward, he's a gem.

Watson. Got flogged by Cloke in the first half, but for a 19yo showed enough. Must be played for the rest of the year.

Cons

Betts....Mr Junk time is rapidly coming to the end of his career. Was hopeless tonight. Surely Ants time for Eddie ???

1AW a terrible game. And just when we thought he may have found his spot :banghead: :banghead: He played like it was lunchtime at school going for those speccies. Gimme a break Andy.

Gibbs. Can someone tell me the last time this bloke actually impacted a game, other than collecting 30 soft possies ? We don't need "nice" players at Carlton, and that's all he will ever be. How many draft picks from GWS for him ? Yes please.

Hampson. He kills us every time he spills a sitter at CHF. Cost us at least 3 goals tonight doing that.

Hate to say it but...............................................................Judd's kicking is very ordinary. I know he's our best and he covers more ground than Burke & Wills, but fair to say that the Coll'wood brains trust don't mind him having it in his hands ??

Carrots :yikes:

T-Bird (see Carrots).

We proved tonight that without Bower, Hendo & Kreuz we're miles behind the Filth. Don't be fooled by the margin.

Swan, Brown, Krakouer and Pendlebury did nothing.

Get rid of Murphy, Gibbs, Hampson, Betts and Judd.

pros

Jamison - Wish we had 2 of him!!!!
Judd
Curnow and Laidler look like good trades
Yarran much better in a big game finally
Garlett is a gun
Robbo courageous
Our pressure on them was really good at times, just need to apply more pressure off the ball now
Didnt get flogged

Cons

Betts - A disgrace, had enough of his front running efforts, needs to play in the ants next week
Duigan tries to do too much without the talent to match, should be dropped when Bower comes back
Hampson - Run out of patience with him
Silly disposal and decision making made me tear my hair out on several occassions

Frustrating game but in the end I think signs are good, certainly weve improved since last year and will do so more when we get our players back

Betts and Hampson yes. Judd our best player by a mile, and will be until he retires, but his kicking is ordinary. I didn't mention Murph, even though he had a poor game by his standards. So how long do we wait for Gibbs (who was a no. 1 draft pick don't forget) to change a game by doing something extraordinary ? Its not an unreasonable expectation of a guy who was/is rated so highly ?

Pros:

1. Judd - yes him again
2. Garlett & Yarran - great running, battled hard all night.
3. Robinson - our kamikaze pilot.
4. Watson - I don't think he's had a good game, but he will be an alright player for us.

Cons:
1. Dropped the ball way too many times. We cannot hold on to the ball.
2. Waite, Carrazo, Walker, Thornton, Simpson - They only really make some effort when the ball or opponent is within a close proximity. Otherwise you won't see them chase a long way to get to the ball or chase down an opponent.
3. A lot of our players are ok, but they really haven't improved much. Seems like a lot of our guys have peaked - this includes players like Murphy and Gibbs.
4. Waite is just a really dumb footballer nowadays.
5. Duigan - he's had a dirty night.
6. Betts - He is the Leon Davis of our team, the contrast between his good games and bad games are huge.
