Football is not important to me anymore does not engage/entertain me , I no longer have a passion for the Carlton Football club. Our administration reminds me of fat old men sitting around a fire having a cigar and cognac reminiscing of how wonderful the glory days were and yet dont have the capacity to realise that today can be made wonderful too. As a supporter for 40+ years I feel that I am treated by the club like the aunt you have to invite to your wedding based solely on the fact that your a relative and its the right thing to do. So I will be continue buying a token 3 game membership until CFC can in some way convinces that they care and are commited to the brand and the supporters.

The fat old guy sittinga round a fire with a cognac is meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

One of the things that has happened is we have lost faith. People can follow for so long but ultimately it cant be buzz phrases... like "20 by 2020 ".. it needs to be set in stone and acted upon.
For too long this club has been dishonest... dishonest with its supporters and its corporates.
I havent bought a membership in a while.. i go to the odd game and i give more to charity (plus more rum and cigars these days)... but who cares?... i love rum and cigars.... i can easily do a sirloin and a red on a friday night and watching us..
They turned it into a Don Burke's back yard... they have no connection with us.. actually Don had a better connection with his viewers than our club has with us.
Times have changed and so have we....(or at least me)
Frank youve joined the dark side..dont worry ... by not believing them.. and hopefully supporting them their oxygen is diminishing...which i hope is change... real change!!!
The club needs to understand its exactly that..... a club !!!...on this year.. our one hundred and fiftieth... it should be down on record.. this club is no longer the club... not the club inclusive of all its people.. but a club that has been hijacked by the few for the few .. so it will have to survive with the few.....the rest of us have to watch from the outer

Do you think the club has a clue they are on a precipice with fans?
n old outdated very uncool club that we are stuck with.
I can enjoy watching good footy played by other teams a few times a week,
but that's about it.
If i see no glimmer for the future soon, I'm happy to do other stuff till the changes come along.
Seems I'm not alone.
The time for supporting and being stoic for a few years while we catch up has passed.
Now it's all the club's own bungling and not an outside source.
They don't listen, and hey, it's even reflected in the pathetic service you get from the CFC shop.
You can read about that in another thread.
I was pro Roos but we couldn't get him.
Because I believe so much of this is a moral and mental thing, I thought he would help a lot.

What really gets me disappointed is I truly believe we will smash Richmond out of the park next week. We've copped a kicking from the media, at all levels, from the players to recruitment, coaches and even at board level have copped some flack. Result? Carlton will come out firing and smash Richmond. But ...and this is the thing that disappoints me most. We'll smash Richmond and then all is forgiven and all is forgotten. Who we end up with the week after is anyone's guess? Will Carlton come out firing again? Or will we see the same old same old one week up and the next week down ...

This is what is killing me as a supporter. I know Carlton can beat (name club here) but over the last decade its been so bloody inconsistent from week to week, season to season fans have just about given up. Once upon a time you could pencil in a win, and know with some degree of confidence that the boys would do the job. Now? Who bloody knows what they'll do. And that there really starts to hurt your trust and faith. This is what I think is happening with a lot of supporters. They are loosing their trust in the club. When Carlton asked its fans to support it through the dark years I was there. We got shafted by the AFL and made an example of. The punishment was WAY beyond the measure of the crime, but okay cop it on the chin, we'll wear it, but know this, we will come back better than ever. This is what I believed and I supported my club because I wanted to see their collective faces when Carlton came back and won its 17th, 18th and 19th premierships. Cement itself as truly THE football of the AFL. Teach them all a lesson for the unfair punishment and bringing down of the greatest club in the AFL.

But reality has come home to roost. We are nowhere near teaching anyone a lesson. Its the same old same old inconsistent mess from last year, the year before that, the year before that, the year before ...

They say the hardest part of a marathon is the last 500 meters. Personally I am completely bloody over it. Its been a hard long slog and I'm done watching an inconsistent CLUB year in year out build my hopes up that we're almost there, almost gonna taste September glory, only to serve up sh*t I been seeing 2 seasons ago, 3 seasons ago, 5 seasons ago, 10 seasons ago ...when does it end?

When we got those first three selections, Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer I thought okay, here we bloody come at last. Three number one picks in anyone's language is a good haul. We'll build now, and in a few short years we'll start seeing September action. A bit of tweaking, some smart deals and we'll be real contenders for a flag or two.

Now? I honestly think we'll be bloody lucky to see finals this year. The AFL hasn't helped our chances, I'll be the first one to acknowledge that. Bloody GWS and GCS have absolutely raped the talent pool. When I think of some of the young talent in those clubs and imagine those same players playing for Carlton ...oh how I wish. But reality is GWS and GCS have them, and you just wait and see these clubs rise to the top of the table and create dynasty's over the next decade.

So what does that leave for Carlton? I shudder at the thought. If ever there was a need for a sense of urgency at our club ...

We could honestly (and believe we might) miss out on September anything from here on in. Think about that for a moment. All these years nowhere. All these years swapping, changing, hiring and firing, up and down for nothing. Its gut wrenching.

I honestly pray these footballers we have are not just "professional athletes" doing their "job" but die hard never say never, do anything to win for the pride of the club and who they play for. I think that is the only thing we have left as a club to hold onto. If not, we may be looking at another bloody rotten decade of suffering ahead.

Good post, Frank.
Very rapidly losing my passion for this club. Just an ordinary middle of the road club, at best.
What we need is a mover and shaker as next prez. To drive cultural change, to lead, to get a CEO that will deputise the prez, to really not settle for anything less than the best always, in all ways.
Ho hum!!!

The glimmer of hope has been extinguished for our family. I have four boys and all have lost interest in the blues. Were not an appealing club for young kids - We have no young stars.

14 years since a preliminary final appearance is the worst in the AFL. What has killed all optimism in the supporter base was that we were told we would make top 4 in 2012 and we didn't. It was put down to injuries and the club hired a premiership coach to take us to the promised land in 2013 and we could only manage 9th. With the truckload of first round picks on our list and with many of them being at the right age, the sort of performances dished up like last Sunday night is a disgrace.

The club is a hard sell to kids, Lil' Miss Wojee lost interest a couple of years ago, and Lil' Miss Wojee II like the Roos of all @#$%&! teams

No way, we nearly won a semi final in 2011. A flag must be just around the corner.....Malthouse was brought in just to give us the icing on the cake.....

My kids don't care about footy. Carlton are a hard club to get excited about.

Stagnation, inconsistency, laziness breed distrust in supporters...once faith goes out the door...the party's over...

I can't imagine right now what would convince a newbie to support our club over many of the other options...

Essendon*'s future is brighter...much brighter than ours
That's all I need to know....The Hird's are a sideshow
We are a basketcase club, close to the worst mismananged (Melb and StK might have us there)
I'll always follow Carlton....but as every year goes by, a small cell of passion dies for a football club that consumed me for the first 38 years of my life
