Was trying to work out who Weitering reminded me of, when he played forward against Freo. Now realised it's Tex Walker. Not quite as explosive. But very good lateral movement. Smart forward who knows how to find the ball. Clean hands. Beautiful kicking skills. Good at ground level.

Pickett good jack whilst not hitting scoreboard greatly does tackle hard and make pressure
Weiters has to play there moved well and leading opened up forward line
Casboult to be the long bomb
Curnow half forward

Palmer and lamb the others
Think Thirsday night forward line will be or something like that

Main problem in Freo match was how ball was delivered in forward line counted in last quarter and a half 8-10 errant kicks
Fortunately Pickett was good enough to redeem the situation

Hmmm, not sure it's that clear cut. Weitering is very good forward- nobody disagrees about that - but if McKay or Jaksch force their way into the side and perform, it will allow us to play Weitering back. If Weitering played in defence on Thursday night, Richmond would have been 5 goals worse off IMO. It was a classic 'rob Peter to pay Paul' scenario.

The big question is whether McKay or Jaksch can have an impact forward for us in 2017. Until they build some consistency in the VFL and force the selectors' hands, Weitering will stay forward.

weitering will be hodge-esque for years to come. he an marchbank will seal up our backline for the next decade.

mckay will be the longterm forward hope.

I was in no doubt he should stay back but by the look of it he is for the moment the forward we need.
He is just so composed, talented and one that demands attention (from both sides) just by playing in that position.
With Marchbank in our side we finally have the luxury of options with still more to come when Jaksch and McKay are ready to step up like abns mentioned.
I know it's a bit early but we just need to get ben at a good price next year then we done for KP's for the next 10-15 years
then adding the support acts to go along with then I'm finally very excited about carltons future again

The operative word here. In the past we'd have one option and then a gaping chasm in backup (remember when Luke Mitchell was our great white hope?).

Now if McKay or Jaksch don't come on, Kerr is an option, and if he doesn't come on, Ben Silvagni will be an option, and failing all of that we have Weitering, now that we have a more steady backline.

I think it is highly unlikely that Jaksch will make the grade.
The fact that he couldn't get a game last year, was overlooked for the JLT series and that Macreadie got selected ahead of him against the Tigers tells me his papers are stamped.

We need to be very patient with the likes of SOS, Curnow and Mckay.

I am already reading what they can't do. Don't forget they are teenagers (Curnow might be 20) so they need a few years to be ready for our judgement.

Charlie might not be at Weitering's level. Or even at SOJ's yet. But he continues to show signs of being a long-term gun forward. He leads hard. He's got clean hands. He's good at ground level. He kicks beautifully. We just need to keep pouring games into him. I think it'll all come in a rush with Charlie. Once he breaks a game open and really knows he belongs, then he'll be right.
