Interesting, have they named TDK as the sole ruck to force him to perform and see how professional he is or has be committed to the blues next year so they know he is the future?
I like the inclusion of O'Keefe as he's more mobile than Pitto, Wilson also deserves his chance..
not that at all. as i’ve written previously when Pitto was brought into the team several weeks ago (apparently on his great VFL form) that meant TDK would be playing more of an invisible forward role (again). and that’s exactly what happened for the recent weeks where these these two rucks played together.
the overdone arguments on TC about one ruck or two (a theoretical navel gazing exercise) are not germaine to our success on field. the important considerations go to this: what does it means for the two selected ruck players when they are playing in the same team. irrespective of how many ruck options the opposing team have selected.
Pitto can’t run and lead so doesn’t challenge defenders as a tall forward. TDK is a great contested grab on the wing, (of De Koening in the Air fame it must be said) and can run, but for some reason he’s never learnt the craft of KPF to the extent he can get separation and space to take marks uncontested within goal kicking range many times a game.
so the reason O’Keefe comes in is bc he can play a genuine FF role as well as ruck with Harry at CHF and TDK can play in his natural position which is number one ruck. If TDK could play like any of the AFL tall forwards who kick 20+ goals a year Pitto and TDK in the same team would be a better option for us. but he can’t or hasn’t so far. TDK has kicked 5 goals same as Walsh, Cerra, Lord, Doc and Acres. he sits as 16th highest goal kicker in a blues for 2025 (or equal 15th with those other midfield players) not sure if they rank equal goal kickers by then ranking on percentage. ie goals/ games played
what does that tell you about his goals kicking in spite of being played forward lately? it tells you he’s a midfielder kicking the occasional happy snag.
should be said TDK is great at the mark then handball play on wind moving us forward quickly at times. also can play a bit of given and go himself. just not a well crafted key forward (yet) maybe Ross Lyon can teach him how to lead up from the forward 50 arc.
