You were at ground on boys weekend

Did you get wet?

At least we didn’t lose by 100 points.

We do give silly free kicks typical of players lacking class and a winning mentality in one on one’s

Why we kick to two against one is stupid. We don’t have Tony Lockett or Garry Ablett snr.

Was that a last disposal free? I've forgotten it. So many shockers to choose from.

We have taken the old saying if you can't mark the ball bring it to the ground to the next level where we simply can't mark the ball. Harry must have dropped 10 plus marks tonight.

We can't tackle
We can't hit targets by foot or hand

Florent Derkson Evans Young Cowan Boyd Carroll Ollie Hok are not AFL standard players
Byrne and Jagga are not AFL ready

Harry and McGovern can't mark
Ainsworth and Elijah have disappearing acts
Walsh can't cope with tag and doesn't touch the ball when Cripps is off.
Pitto needs to know his limitations
Cerra goes missing
Haynes is to old
Williams is slow and soft
Newman has missed to much football and could be finished
Kemp is useless and barely a VFL player.

It is still Cripps or bust.

Also Crows have been screwed over by bad umpiring decisions in the last 3 games. They got paid back and some tonight.

It would have been nice to win the 2nd half but alas it wasn't to be.

We are a poorly skilled side that lacks pace but despite this they bust their arse

I can agree with all that except Williams and I think when Pitto tired after quarter time and it impacted our mids, in particular Walsh’s game. Ball stopped going our way. I thought Cripps was expected to carry more of the load without Hewett. Cripps off ground in 2nd and Pitto losing dominance didn’t help Walsh.

I think you’re a good honest judge SB, so I may be wrong. Reflecting on your preseason opinions I have to say you were closest to the pin.

Maybe we played better tonight, and showed improvement and more heart but we really lack outside speed and class imo. We just can’t run ball from backline.
I made a slight error of judgement in the preseason. I said we were a bottom 6 side.
We are not we are bottom 4.

And as much as it pains me to say it you could see this coming 2 to 3 years ago

Just quietly, I thoroughly enjoyed the no look handballs over the head. We pulled quite a few of them off tonight.

All in all, it wasn't as disastrous as it could have been.

Baby steps.

Our look handballs rarely hit targets so might as well not look.

Still reckon it's a throw but even throws aren't throws so who cares.

Related - crows handball work was fantastic.

Their throw work was next level.

Ah yes. The one where he grabbed the ball in mid-air while crossing the boundary line at the same time.

The last touch rule is a joke. We lost about four of them due to an innocuous touch before it went over.

I honestly had to turn it off tonight. The state of the game and the absolute rubbish umpiring meant i couldn't watch it any more. Nothing to do with Carlton losing. Just the deplorable product the AFL have created from what used to football. Footy in 2026 sucks

Okay, it's not just me. I had a look at Big Footy as well as here and I'm not sure I've ever seen the theme of shit umpiring dominate forums this much.

My take was that despite the armchair ride the Crows were getting up until halftime, we were coming in the third when the rain slowed their fantsypants playing-to-the-fishbowl shenanigans then the maggots well and truly killed the contest, exhibit A being the Cripps free and goal that never happened.

And since when did racist Dumbo get to bring his own (empty) rule book? FMD

Cripps kicks that goal and we were right in it. Despite our mediocrity, we had a crack and there is a glimmer of hope that we'll catch some half-decent side unawares enough times to almost reach the top ten if we stand on our tippy toes.

the problem with last night is, historically, thats the kind of effort and intent we bring about once every 4-5 weeks/ rounds of footy.

felt a bit like our gf. let's see if we're back to half efforts and shirking it next week, or if we bring the same fire.

Ah yes, that's the one where I asked if anyone knew they'd changed the rule during the week. According to a dubious source (the Channel 7 commentary team), the umpire had paid a last disposal free, and the rule had changed because they'd seen how players were launching themselves at the ball just to get a fingertip to a team mate's kick, and decided that was no longer grounds for a throw in, that the touch had to be a concerted effort to keep the ball in play. Having explainer the decision, the C7 team all agreed it was a shit one because Haynes had nowhere else to go and could hardly be expected to hurl himself at the ball, risking a heavy collision with the fence, just to tap the ball to the nearby Crows.

I was OK with the last disposal rule as a way of dealing with the bizarre mind reading umps were expected to exercise, but using ARC and counting accidental brushes off the outside of the shin as a disposal is just rancid stuff. That "clever" goal Adelaide got via ARC by handballing against Florent about 3mm below the kneecap is going to become a common tactic all the way down the wing as players realise the opportunity presented by this over zealous new interpretation. Surely when they set aside the usual Gather Round Thursday bias, the AFL will review this game and think this isn't what we were aiming for. It's a disaster in the making.

Yep. There's times when it just doesn't look like footy any more.

And they'll make another rule change to sort out the rule change they brought in. We've seen this movie before

The AFL will either double down and change some more rules mid season, creating yet more confusion, or they'll refuse to admit they [REDACTED] up and we'll see half the games spent reviewing if the ball came off a players bootlace or not.

No one's talking about the game itself, but everyone's talking about the umpiring.

I guess that first quarter is what the AFL wants. 13 goals scored & more like entertainment than an engrossing contest.

We kicked some nice goals I guess but there's not much point when you look terrible in defence.
