First time I've watched Carlton win live since leaving Melbourne in 92. We don't get many up here. Rapted.

Found myself watching Cowan a lot tonight. He is really growing into a star, such an assured performer in the air and on the ground, reads it so well... I felt most confident when the ball was in his zone. As the game went on, Haynes started to take over. No surprise there, we know he is all class. Both among our best.

Being at the game, you can see we lack a key forward, and not just when H goes into the ruck. There just isn't an aerial threat there, despite how good Kemp is for his size (up until the kicking bit, of course). Thankfully our small and medium forwards were superb tonight: Tank and Cotters stepping up at key moments, Byrne doing the Fog rule, Hayward eating those 50m/45 degree shots for breakfast, and Ainsworth... God I love this man.

Midfield also excellent... agreed with whoever said the other week that Walsh's quality is more apparent at the ground, he just gets to everything, but tonight he also had quality disposal that will show on the TV. Hewett fantastic, Crippa a warrior but I wish he weighted his kicks better (only time I remembered him doing so was on his left).

An enjoyable, easy going stadium to watch footy, much better experience than the last time I came here and watched GWS cream us by 70-odd. Went to a different spot each quarter, spending Q4 with the blue army willing the ball through the big sticks.

Impressive win. Especially when you consider our two key defenders are an 18 year old and a state league player with 15 games between them

good point! I was thinking Young should have played not Derkson.

as i've been saying since Fraser became coach, our midfield is what's making our defenders and forwards look better.

have to watch the replay but seems like Jagga went ok with 26 D | 12 CP | 13 UP | (equal game high) 6 i50 | 5 SI | 4 IP | 3 FF | 1 FA
those stats are basically double his season averages for everything. building nicely.

He was great. Forgot to mention him in my summary, but was definitely thinking of him when I started writing. Happens a lot on the phone, brain miles ahead of fingers...

Guys what’s wrong with Ison ? He looks like he has the world on his shoulders. Not playing with the fun and strut like the earlier rounds. Doesn’t look confident at the moment. I was willing him to kick a goal just to lift his spirits a bit.

Did what he had to do particularly in the first half, provided great forward 50 pressure, stats didn’t show it, he’s got great vision, his pass to Kemp was really good.

I think he has to realise until he builds an upper body he is going to be a ground ball player and not a pack buster, but that will come in time.

Walsh 34 possies at 80% and only 2 turnovers. Clutch goal before 3 qtr time. We dont win without him.

Helps when all your good players play well.

Umpiring the worst I’ve seen all year. HTB without tackling. A mark to a bloke after the ball was punched. Inconsistent application of the rules both ways.

We should win the next two and be 8 and 8.

That’s the point he had zero respect for the club as I don’t think he ever lost to us whilst he played for Hawthorn.

Just home what a day.
Great catching up with Bondi and Sinbagger and good to finally meet Wojee.

We played all over them all game and margin should have been a lot more if not for that Spud Kemp. He is clueless.

So many players had good games Cripps Walsh Jagga Hewett Cerra all really good.
Harry stood up in the last and Pitto did some nice things.

Best day I have had at the footy in a long time.

We are back baby

He’s a beauty isn’t he? I hope he keeps level headed and just does what he does, as he will be one of those.

Ps. Well done Pete, loved you as a player and see you kid with similar attributes.

Has lost a bit of buzz, pace of the game looks a bit much for him at the moment but a 5 game run is great.

I thought he was brilliant in (I think) the 2nd qtr in one contest. Halved (thirded?) a contest with 2 taller GWS players courageously and memory says it resulted in a goal.

I'll have to rewatch but things like Dean getting into Toby, billy's end of game chase and I son's body on the line effort make me happy.

New standards.

Very solid win.

Get the goal kicking right and we will move forward.

A non-Carlton footy mate of mine has been banging on about the "Sugar hit" of the fill in coach Josh, being the boost of our turnaround, at least for the first few wins in a row. He has been very, very quiet since lol. The media is coming around a bit, and seriously, the players haven't changed, the coach has and the game plan has. Whether u want to say it is with some twerks from Vossys game, IMO, Josh has done a whole lot more than that!

Another mate said pick Josh and I said I get that but I have the ghost of Teague in my head.

Regardless, you cannot discount the massive improvement under Josh. At worst if he still insists he isn't interested - at worst he should be a part of the coaching group without question.

Key takes over the last 5 wins - IMO, this team is renewed, its harder, faster in game style and more importantly remains resilient though adversity. Yes we have he highs from the usual suspects, but they have had much.much more support and there has been consistent contributions across the board.

Some notable stuff from today:

Hewett - 30 possies at 93% efficiency, 11 contested - 1 goal
Walsh - IMO he killed Oliver, and that goal at 3qtr time - clutch - big time
Crippa - just like a fine red wine and that second qtr/half ----- WOW
Jagga - If he isnt streets, miles ahead of the Rising Star, well... come on FFS
The Boys clamped down on GWS, run and gun game.
No Weiters no worries - team defence rules.
The overall inexperienced defence kept their gun forwards to nothing.
If Harry Dean isnt a once in a generation Key Back, I will go heave, Also, love his grunt and raise the flag for the team mentality. Flowering superstar!
Nick Haynes - much maligned to some extent, but wow - what a game mate
Kemp - you are the leading goal kicker, but maybe your confidence is off shot a bit - should have had 5 goals today, but you continue to present and create havoc up forward
Many others...

One week at time and all that, but quietly confident this streak goes to at least 7 on the trot.

GO BLUES!!

The only one that had me thinking the lad needs a spell was when he got caught HTB, just on 50m. Not because he got caught, but because he baked his teammates for not telling him it was a hot footy.

At the end of a handball chain. In the last quarter. Of a tight game.

Calm down, young fella.

Pros:

Jagga, Walsh, Evans, Acres, Pitto, Cripps, Cottrell, Dean, Cowan.
Kemp probably best on the ground if he wasn't so wasteful.
Great job by Derksen.
Byrne's pressure was magnificent.
Very few passengers.

Cons:

Inaccuracy (worst in the comp) and forward entries. Could easily have been a 10 goal win.
Umpiring was horrible.
Ison's struggled to find it the last 2 games.

Proper 4qtr performance. Never wavered in confidence or style even when challenged.

I don't know if Fraser is the answer but if someone tries to tell me this is Voss's style under a new coach I'll SPEW UP.

Players played for each other. So much effort and sacrifice.

Even Ison who had a quiet game had a crucial effort, sandwiched between 2 taller players, to break even in the forward line.

My favourite effort of the season. Even ahead of Geelong.

This is Voss's style under a new coach.
