Simpson - loved it when Wanganeen started tagging him.
Waite - if only he held onto that mark, kept feet much better today - imposing player when he doesn't fall over.
Bentick -Very admirable but needs to increase foot speed and concentrate on defensive game.
Wiggin's desire and selfless marking, keep him on the list just for endeavour, though disposal can be appalling.
Lappin getting touch back.
Lance keeping up form - ripe to trade for Western Bulldog's first round pick.

Positives from tankers corner

Fev is reported and will go for at least two weeks.
No leadership shown from senior players in the 2nd half.
And the biggest positive - only three weeks of this bizarre supporting left.

Who would have thought at the start of the year that someone would be tagging Simpson come year's end?!

He really is a shining light in an otherwise dark season.

Agree, especially the last line. What the short-sighted people don't understand is that we don't enjoy it, it's just we know better

And how good is that going to be?!?!

Can't wait for it.

Is that the reason why Livo was dropped for Wiggo?

V79, i thought Whitnal showed heaps of leadership in the second half. Looked like he was puting his hand up for captaincy.

I can see him get a bit of a Chris Grant style aura about him over the next few years with the Blues unless we trade him for a risky draft pick.

Club 29,

I differ on Whits and leadership, I reckon he's put on weight over the last few weeks and is even slower than he was. If we keep him, so be it, but I think we should trade him like Hawthorn did Thompson, gobble up the draft picks in the next couple of years and look to a longer term future.

I love watching Whitnall play but he's not putting himself out on the park in a condition to get the most out of himself. Hartlett and Setanta will be right to play in the backline next year and there's still the poss. that Mal Michael might come down and help us out for four or five years. Not much place in our forward line for Lance now either. Have to wait and see what happens. Reckon Collo will have the final say.

with Bentick and Simpson stepping up, and with Walker, Blackwell and Russell to come, plus Scotland and Stevens, are we starting to have a midfield?

79Vintage did you see Whitnall on occasions tell the other players in the backline where they should be? He had his arms out directing the traffic and I think that his knowledge of the game is invaluable to our younger guns. While he may not be able to do it all himself physically, he is still one of our best players and is one of our best leaders on the field. Make no mistake about that. He is one of the reasons that we are playing better at the moment (of course there are many).

If he was directing traffic like you said, I hope he chose the hardest option for himself. To my eyes all the defenders did was man up all day, no one filled space on any occasion, so Lance's direction couldn't have done much if all they were doing was manning up.

Saw Lance put a crap shepherd on for Simmo that nearly cost a turnover except that Simmo put his arse on the line, while Lance stood and watched for an easy handball for himself.

Lance will only sign a contract if Collo wants it. I guess it depends on whether Collo saw your version or mine, and I saw Lance telling players to do things because he chose the easy option for himself.

Agreed.

Waite and Simpson were obviously terrific.
I thought Thornton did a fantastic job on Tredrea.
Good to see Lappin back into some form.
Bentick was good again in the contest.
Nice to see Bryan making some body contact in a couple of contests in the 2nd quarter. (If he's going to make it as a second ruckman, then at his height he'll need to do a lot of running and soften up opposition big men.)

I actually thought he wasn't that flash. The only time Tredrea really had his marking impeded was when Lance got in for the spoil. I thought he got away on the lead from Thornton way too easily. In fact it was only when Tredrea went to ground that Thornton ever really got the better of the contest.

Furthermore, I am sick of Thornton's dummy spits every time his opponent takes a mark. The first few times it came across as though he had some passion and was genuinely frustrated. Now however, every stat his opponent gets seems to be followed with a mini-tantrum. It's bad for team morale, and it lets his opponent know that he's frustrated and getting beat.

(Edit: oops, probably doesn't belong in the positives thread  )

Thornton was first game back from an injury without a comeback run in the reserves, and while Tredrea bruned him off on the lead a few times his in-close work was pretty good.

His mark in the third quarter backing into the contest was superb.
