I think a poster collaboration of pics from the day or famous pictures of events/incidents that have happened at OO would have been much better.

I'd have been more than happy with nothing.

Haven't got mine yet and instead of all being stick in the muds complaining about the cost, just look at it from the point of view that $1 of your membership fee went towards sending you a nice thank you card. Can't please some people can we, seems some would only be happy if they got Marc Murphy sent to them by Express Post.

I'd cream my dacks if the Chosen One rocked up on my front door all decked out in his Carlton gear.

I haven't recieved one, but then I'm a AFL member with a club support package so I might not be included.

So am I and I got one and then today i got my copy of Inside Carlton

So 33500 members @ say 50 cents per mailout plus say 40c per card (i have no idea how much these are)
Is approximately $30,000

Inside carlton postage would be more than 50c but call it .50c plus I imagine the mag would work out at about $1.50 cost. This goes to only 1 per household so say 15,000 members that would be about $30,000.

So that is a good $60,000 of valuable money that the club has wasted this week - really upsets me to recieve more than one letter from the club in the same week - could have have at least combined the two. Particularly if the club is crying poor.

The plastic card is a useless piece of crap

So the club cant win

They send you a thank you as a PR thing and it's no good
What do you idiots want?

PR will keep members rather than lose them and the postage $$ shouldn't be your concern

I think you got Jack Shit confused with Jack Elliott.

As a thank-you gesture to members I think it's okay, but nothing to get excited about. I would have preferred a Members' discount on the farewell game magazine.

And (irrespective of whether you and I think it is worth it) I think you'll find that it would have cost the club more to try and combine the two mail-outs. The addressing, packing and posting of Inside Carlton would be done to set routine (based on one per household). The addressing, package and posting of the card would be done to a different routine (based on one per member). In fact, the actual work may well have been undertaken by two seperate 'mail houses'. To try and merge the two routines would have added time and cost to the process. I'm sure it was a lot easier (and therefore cheaper) to send my household 4 packages - one Inside Carlton and three cards - than to send us one package with all those items.

Well said Caz. Wasn't really that excited to get mine but hey at least there is an attempt to recognise members and what they bring to the club.

I agree with Camelboy. I was pleased to receive a thank you for my support of the club this year. My experience in marketing is that positive reinforcement is valuable. I suggest that whatever the small expense involved it will be recouped many times over. The card is nothing special but it is the gesture that counts - confirming to members that they are inportant to the club.

If you are all non-plussed by the cards, by all means throw them away. This will mean that when my great great great grandson fronts up with mine to the 2210 series of antiques roadshow, my descendants will make about $200.

Obviously by then however I will be playing kick to kick with Marc Murphy at that great homeground in the sky and reminiscing over premierships 17 - 40, the financial collapse of Collingwood and the return to obscurity and eventual relocation to Tasmania of St Kilda.

I appreciate the gesture! As Mrs C and CAmel have said...thinbk back to when you heard nothing form the club...

Gee you can't win sometimes.
I wouldn't also mind betting that the card may be used in future for the old "I was there" status.
Have a think about a re-union in 10 years time...all those eligible (with card) will be able to attend

Last game merchandise (YES THAT jumper!! replica) - purchase at normal jumper rate on presentation of that card!

BTW...I'm making my own collage of the little guys kicking goals at the end of the day and may stick that card in it!
