Pretty good year for Kouta. I'm hoping he gets his 2nd B&F this year as i honestly believe he should.

1. Kouta
2. Nick Stevens
3. Lance Whitnall
4. Jarrad Waite
5. Andrew Carrazzo.

Would also expect to see kouta poll the most brownlow votes maybe 5 - 10 range. Jarrard Waite and Lance Whitnall to be in it too.

Doubtfull on any AA selections from Carlton this year. Maybe Kouta on interchange - but doubt it!

I think Kouta had a lean patch mid-season, was great earl and has probably been pretty consistent. The stats ryan provided show this.

Kouta was most consistent all season, had a couple of bad games though that left him open to the bile of our resident naysayers...

I haven't tallied my votes for the past three weeks, but Lappin had a 3 vote lead from Stevens and Waite after round 19. My top 5 is in no order yet:

Lappin
Stevens
Waite
Kouta
Carrazzo

I said Whitnall. More standout games than Kouta I think.

The Age Good Food Guide Awards were announced last night. One of the most eagerly anticipated awards is the "Best New Restaurant". This year the judges decided that no new restaurant really stood out and instead of devaluing the esteem in which the award is held they decided to withold it.

Food for thought?

I guess that cannot work in a system where votes are given, so we'll always have a winner by default. But it's a worthy point, along the lines of noting the winners of B&Fs during premiership years.

There's one of the big footy questions.

Would you prefer to win a B& F in a premiership season (a la Ratten) or a Norm Smith Medal?

instead of suspending the B&F in spoon collecting years, why don't we just rename it the McKernan Medal?

That list doesn't lie. ;)

A Norm Smith would probably give greater instant gratification, but I think the B&F would be more highly regarded over time due to it being a season long effort. Although, a Norm Smith is probably the best benchmark a player can achieve in terms of highlighting their ability to play good footy in finals.

It's a good question.

1982 - Maurice Rioli (who definitely was the best indigenous player on the day)
2002 - Nathan Buckley (who definitely got the highest number of inconsequential possessions on the day)

And how many Norm Smiths did the Dominator win? Yeah, let's see ..... there was...er..hang on ... er ... BOG in 1979 - no NS; BOG in 1982 (by a country mile) - no NS; close to BOG in 1987 - no NS.

That's what I call a benchmark. Greg (or is it Paul) Dear - 1 NS; Billy Duckworth - 1 NS; Gee, even Colin Robertson (who?) - 1 NS; Wayne Johnston - zippedy doodah.

Nah. I think a B&F in a Premiership year is worth a lot more.

You may be right, and benchmark may have been the wrong choice of word ... the Norm Smith is well regarded, even if it may not always be well awarded.

Could argue that Peter Dean was wobbed in 1995.

Williams kicked 5 and had quite a few possessions, was influential - but for inspirational value Dean had it over Diesel by about 200%. He was unbelievable.

Being Williams' birthday probably helped too...

I agree with you Clem, Dean was sensational that day dashing out of defence, helping out SOS, brilliant smothers, nearly kicked an incredible goal, he was one of my all time favorites.
