Might not have had as good a season 2005 as season 2004 but losing both Campo and Lappin if he leaves will set us back a fair bit.

Yes, only raise the topic unless it's fact. It's fair topic for discussion.

Yeah, I'ld like to see him stay but I can see why you would be cheesed off when you've been holding back (maybe on a promise) of a contract that has then changed.
If he stays, he stays because he wants to at what's been negotiated. ...not becuase he has no option or because we forked out as "we owed him"

I still think Campo's manager dropped him in it and Malouf couldn't get to the media quick enough to make the announcement that he was going (trade or otherwise)

.....anyway, is this Synbad talking or Bizarro-Synbad (where everything is opposite?)

................. 8)

Immediately after trade week it looked like an agreement was going to be struck within days..
The club still expect him to re-sign.. as has been mentioned, sticking point isnt over money but of length. it has to be that way :)

It will be tragic to lose Lappin ?

What exactly is he asking for ?

Well I think $150k over three years is good enough for a player his age.

Whilst the pigs had their heads in the trough over the past few years, Lappin sacrificed his dollars for the club.
He played great footy whilst others bled the club dry and put their hand out for twice his contract.

It's a matter of principle now. Those he sacrificed for 3 years ago are still only looking after themselves.

Good luck Lappo, I'll be sad to see you go.

Well said BV.

I hope he stays but I now think he'll go now. If the board offer him a 3 year deal now their credibility will be completely compromised.

I think the board is doing the right thing by not jumping to Lappin's proposals. However, for the long term development of the team I think it is important we re sign Lappin as our experienced player stocks are dwindling at a rapid rate. We need a balance, and I think Lappin can come to an agreement to the same amount offered over a two year perios spread over three years. So if the offer is $350k over two years I am sure he can accept some $360k over three years...even if he spends his final year in the Bullants, who cares?

Idiot Sheehan on 3AW the other night said that the Blues financial offer for Lappin was very generous, over what he would otherwise get. He got greedy asking for the third year and since Carlton pulled the offer they arent being as generous.

Sometimes players should use common sense instead of listening to windbags like Ron joseph

Would anyone noticed if we switched him with his cousin?

Posted in another topic about Lappin and Campo.

I have some news from a reliable source at Carlton that Campo was offered around $300 - $350K by Carlton and he rejected it wanting $400-$450K....Essendon* surprisingly is not going to offer that much to him either but they still seem to be interested in him.

During trade week the deal was going to happen that Ted Richards, Marc Bullen and a draft pick was going to be traded to us for Campo but Richards was asking for to much money and then went to Sydney as they were offering what he wanted.

Will see what happens with Campo now if the Essendon* don't want him.

Also on Lappin he will sign probably next week when he returns from the IR squad to Melbourne....the club was waiting to see what happens with Campo and now that he definately wants out, Lappin will be signed.

Mark of the year 6 years ago? Better offer him 4 years.

My mail is he's nowhere near signing..
The issue is tenure not dollars so Campo's contract isnt relevant.
He's been offered 3 years elsewhere and is disenchanted with his treatment.
Whilst the others had the nose bag on the past 3 years, Skinny played for half his market rate.

Some of our players should be ashamed to see skinny leave after what he's sacrificed for the carlton football club.

Lappin's been a really talented player, and can still contribute. But who'd be stupid enough to offer him 3 years at his age?

I thought he played pretty well in the International Series game tonight. He set up a lot of the opportunities that we had particularly in the first half.

Lappin is the type of player that could play another 4-5 years if he kept himself fit and injury free. He has enormous skills and could teach our younger players much. I am not sure if he could stay up with the pace of the game though.

Two years or three. I don't understand why we can't give him two years and the option of a third if he finishes top 10 in our best and fairest for the preceding two years. That should suit both parties I would have thought.
