And who landed the big fish SydneyBlue? Where did Power and Salopek and Bolton move to?

Nowhere?

Why didnt they come to Carlton? Could it be that we're still sufferign a full salary cap even though we traded away large conrtacted players? POSSIBLE?

We wont land big fish until we have salary cap to throw around and we wont have salary cap to throw around until we have salary cap to throw around! Should start next year although still bemused couldnt happen this year.

Someone posted here recently that we would have been over salary cap in 2005 if it wasnt for trading these guys. Want some more penalties?

ATW the other clubs were not in the position that we were in have No 1 in the PSD . We should have got some one .

We should take this arguement elsewhere I dont want to ruin a perfectly good thread created by Jar highlighting how crap we have become with the politics of the Carlton football club

Lets just say that Opposition Performance over 2000-2005 still stopped other clubs from securing Luke Power? Is that on topic?

Sydney,

You should try Mrs Pagan's gourmet sandwiches. The last person that did decided to leave sunny powerful Brisbane for poor old cold and miserable Carlton.

but LB answer the questions.

How good is this list

How much money have we got to throw around?

I tell you now 2 years ago Sticks said no one would believe just how close this club was to being over the salary cap again. We have been hog tied for the past 3 years and most of the decisions made have been about 2 things.

Money
and
Attitude.

get rid over over inflated contracts where possible

get rid of shite attitude where possible.

This club is not trying to buy a flag

it is trying to create a club that will
survive
stay under the salary cap
have enough experience to teach the kids
invest in kids and develop them.

I am happy with this

It requires patience

OK it was you then who posted about this. Something about having to trade to keep under the cap, let alone for football or talent reasons. Trade away a guy on $300000, pay half of it, and then bring in a guy on $100000 and pocket the difference.

Amazing stuff. Ridiculous management. Happy no Jack. All this from a team bouncing on the bottom!

  that;s just my sad brain, SB became LB and it sticks. Its like we just bought a new car and somehow the wrong name got attached in my brain - so far my wife hasn't left but its getting close cos i cannoty refer to that damn car with the right name.

sorry SB I'll try and get it right. Now you know why my spelling is appalling. Most of the time I am guessing.

Gees Danny I feel a bit let down now I was hoping you had come up with something .

Now getting back to list management. The way I look at it is like this.

Pagan comes in recognises we have a crap list.

Q.How do you improve a list.
A. Go to the Draft.
Q. What happens if you cant draft.
A. Wait until you can. Rely on you curren player base and take chances on youth
Q. What about the fans.
A. If Sydney can wait 72 years I am sure Carlton can wait 5-10
Q. Players dont like my game plan or style.
A. Adapt to suit your players if it doesn't pay off dont worry deledio and Tambling are waiting.
Q. But what about the fans.
A. they are loyal they are prepared to wait if they see a plan in place
Q. Whats a plan
A. thats something you put in place to eventually acheive success not head down one track and then vere off in another direction when it doesn't work
Oh I see now i will go away and think about it for a while

Good post Mr.Blue. I think your second answer is wrong though, I think its more like:

A: Wait until you can. Rely on you curren player base where possible, but if there are some guys around who you dont like or who are costing too much money and someone else wants them (after all, you wont need them) trade at any cost, bringing in others if you can to fill some spots because its going to be a tough tough ride. Only take a chance on youth if all the other clubs have stuffed up, until the time when you thin you've got 10-12 solid senior players <25 to base your future finals team around

Something like that?

you ignore SB that some players were detrimental - remember that Nth game - @#$%&! i would have sacked everyone on the list after that @#$%&! game! Well all but Macca and one or two others.

so get rid of the trouble (those you can cos of contracts, cap and financial constraints) and bring in some good blokes (Bowyer, Morrell, Harford and Clarke are four that fit this bill) who may help teach the kids good habits.

draft youth (with sense)

juggle for three or so years while picks come around and youth develop

and and find a way of securing a few sponsors - hey win a whizz fizz cup, have a solid season, say 10th....

we all run around bemaoning, pointing fingers, bagging etc, but the reality is this club was teetering, the fact it remains, the fact that we have some good kids and still have members and sponsors and stuff, means we are doing some things right. Not everything but this club was hamstrung as much as Fitzroy was in its day - they folded, so far we haven't and I am happy with that.

No Danny they were not detrimental to the club the were detrimental to DP and his reputation as they disagreed with his coaching methods. They should have worked through it. The players and the coach should have been made to comprimise but as the administration was in turmoil and debt recovery it was over looked and DP done what he pleased. We went from a democracy to a dictatorship and it should have been nipped in the bud.

As for sponsorship you dont have to be a winning side to attract sponsors Colloingwood have had a couple of ordinary years and they pull sponsors in from everywhere.

Its the difference between a coach applying for a job with a forward plan and a proposal for the club as against being poached by someone trying to save his own arse.

I'll never forget the abuse the players copped in the race as they trudged off the ground.

Murph wasn't playing but was at the end of the race absolutely giving it to this supporter that was getting stuck into him.
